I continue to read that some of the higher rated in state football players are committing to other programs. Is u.t. Recruiting these players? If they are it is concerning that Tennessee guys are going elsewhere. I suppose when you have a season like last year it’s expected.

There are books of information, not to mention the latest VQ podcast, explaining and opinionating every detail of your questions on the front page of this forum. Take an afternoon, grab a cup of Joe and read away.

Ahhhh OP... Coach Pruitt does his own evaluations and does not give a rats rear end about how many stars some internet sensation puts besides a kids name. Bottom line Coach Pruitt and staff simply don't believe very many of the 2019 in state kids are that good . They are good enough to get you to 6 and 6 ... not good enough to win many more games than that and will get a coach fired if he recruits too many of them...

You dolts that live and die by stars are hysterical

Agree, but 90% of this board goes ape sh!% when a 4-5* commits. And, if every single top 10 player in the state of Tennessee had committed to UT:

(Wilhoite,Hampton,Norton,Washington,Anderson,Patterson,Knox,Lampley,Sheffield, and Gray)

and UT was in the top 5 recruiting right now because of that, VN would be exploding in glee. NJMO.

Dolts? Very adult of you. Whether you want to believe it or not, stars matter. This has been proven time and time again. While there are exceptions to the rule, for the most part, the teams with the most 4 and 5* players are the big time winners. Now, yes those teams had some good 3* players sprinkled in there. But thats not what makes up the bulk of their classes.

If you dont think Pruitt and his staff are concerned about a recruits ranking then I really dont know what to tell you.

Top rated recruits are being plucked from underneath Pruitt's nose by top programs because Pruitt thinks they aren't good? Right. The Pruitt era isn't starting off well and you guys are in denial.

People that are all about in-state players are generally people who have never left the state. Dont get the simple minded obsession with state borders. This isnt europe.

Lol not starting well?

Pruitt managed this (Natl Rank: 20 SEC Rank: 8 Avg Rating: 0.8771) with 23 enrolled, with a team that was in the toilet in 2018. Which is actually Natl Rank: 19 with Brandon Kennedy added.

Before Pruitt got to the school our recruiting class was ranked outside of the Top 50 in the nation.

Yet the Pruitt era is starting off bad... Lol (you are an idiot)

Oh yeah.... So far for the 2019 class this is the ranking (Natl Rank: 19 SEC Rank: 9 Avg Rating: 0.9013) which is only with 12 commits.

So before you type something how about do some research you dolt.

Didn't anyone tell you the Gruden landings were all faked by Stanley Kubrick? Get in the loop, d0OD. :clapping:

When Pruitt didn't close stong with the 2018 class, people said not to worry because 2019 was going to be chock full with instate talent and now that those kids are cold on the Vols the same "experts" are saying that all the top prospectsin TN are overrated. I'm going to laugh through the tears when Muschamp kicks our azzes with overrated TN kids.

Stars matter on average but not when applied to specific players (I'm agreeing with you btw- just adding to the point)

What I mean by that is 50% or more of 4/5* players will be very good college players. A much smaller % of guys rated lower will turn out to be 4/5* performers.

Your odds are always better with the highly ranked players but stars aren't guarantees.

The caveat to UT recruiting at times has been something Pruitt hit on early after being hired. He said something to the effect that if they wanted to compete with Bama and UGA they had to start recruiting the same players. UT seems to have a history of getting an inordinate number of Chris Donald or Kenny O'Neal type 5* players.

Some of the guys they're missing on are going to be good players. But few of them are so uniquely talented that there aren't others (including some 3*) that can be coached up to play just as well.

IMO, the key is having a staff that proves it can coach players up. The best players want to play for the best coaches... not used car salesmen.

Deal... on the flip side, when we begin to win meaningful games, don’t be the first to say “great job”. You should be the first on board apologizing for making yourself look like an ignorant azz.

All I can say is that some of the top recruits in state haven't even been offered by Tennessee which means that they aren't good fits for CJPs system.

Some were committed early to other programs but we still have a shot...especially if we start winning and looking like a team on the rise. Once confidence is restored in our coaching, recruits will start putting us higher on their lists.

Cade Mays didn't decide to decommit and flip in one day and we won't correct the problems of last season overnight.

dolt...idiot...?

saying that to a guy who is voicing an opinion on a message board with other wanna be recruiters and coaches is very petty.

I hope CJP and staff are right in their evals on the in-state prospects. I will side with him until he proves himself wrong. 100% faith (I never liked Wilhoite or W. Washinton to begin with). But, one of the 1st rules in recruiting is to have the ability to pluck the top talent from your own state. I'm not sure many of the top players in TN even thought about UT as a serious option. That isn't CJP's fault. That is an entirely different discussion.
