In the last 3 games

It's pretty simple guys, Dooley recruited and beefed up the LB's and DB's. He said it once in an interview he wants big tough LB's and DB's. He gave up speed for bulk and conditioned them for it each year. It'll take a few years to fix that.

Agree that's what he did... completely disagree that it takes "years" to fix.

Dooley had 3. Butch gets the same.

Totally agree. That does not mean he's immune from criticism along the way.

I'd just like to see evidence that they are maxing this roster out. When the D looks like they have no idea what they're doing or where they're supposed to be or what their assignments are... I don't think that's a positive sign, do you?

a top 10 team with one loss has less talented football players on the field than a team that just gave up 1000 yards rushing in 3 games?

wtf is wrong with some of you folk? Besides watching the game, teams and individual player's skill sets to form an objective opinion, take note that mizzou has 6 first rounders in the last few years. We haven't had a first rounder since Eric Berry and won't for at least another 3 years. They will have 3 defensive players drafted this year, whereas we won't have 3 drafted in the next 3 years combined.
How in the world does that mean Mizzou is less talented? 40 times from hs? Rivals hs rankings prior to a player stepping on campus?

God I hate this, but you're right. Sjt18 is way off on this one.

UT does have more talent than most will admit, but Mizzou and Auburn have more.

There has still been a failure of coaching. Mizzou and Auburn are not good enough on talent alone to humiliate us. CBJ and the not close to the best staff in the SEC helped with that.

You should lay down and rest

Really? He missed all those tackles by himself?

So, you're making an excuse for allowing an average of 329 yards/per game rushing?

I'm sorry, but there is no excuse in the world for that piss poor performance

A lot less talented teams do better against the run because of fundamentals, coaching, and play calling

Haven't you heard? We have no talent and our players are slow.

Who on our d would start for other sec defenses?

I just believe the staff is not getting enough credit for what they have done. The have a true freshman in Sutton ready to play each week, they have gotten more out of Jaques Smith than any previous coach, and have had a couple of walk-ons in position to make plays. Now those plays are not always made but they were in position to make them.

So if the staff is to blame for the short comings of some they should get credit for the improvements of the others.

You would think our defense could at least make RB's and receivers trip or stumble by just getting in their way

I keep hearing that

Are these the same ones that beat South Carolina?

They looked fast then

They looked fast against Georgia too. However against three top 10 teams that have more speed than we do, we are going to look slow.

Why do you think Oregon and Baylor look so fast? Is it because every team they play is slow on defense? No. It's because they have more speed.

For overall SEC defenses? Sutton, Randolph, Big Dan, AJ Johnson, Vereen, Maggitt, im sure ive missed a few. It's hard to tell when we're not seeing full potential from lack of defensive coaching.

Who gets credit for coaching those guys up. If the coaches get credit for their downfalls do they get credit for coaching them up as surely they could not start for any other D without good coaching.

And Maggitt should not be discussed when discussing the staff as he has not played for them yet.

I think the defense doesn't have that killer instinct to throttle teams at the point of attack and don't have that championship mentality to persevere when the going gets tough. Looks like they wilt under pressure. I'd give every single member of the team a bag of concrete, tell them to harden up and every time they make a mental error, I'd make them run the field with that bag of concrete. I'd make the defense start with 444 laps of the field first for every rushing yard they gave up. This team needs to be punished hard during this bye week!

Mizzou IS less talented than UT right now. They are performing WAY above the sum of their talent... that's what really good coaches give you.

I think many here underestimated Aub. The score should not have been that lopsided but they are more talented.

You can't be serious. Mizzou has the best dline in the SEC along with a great receiving core, a solid oline, and a solid qb. Pinkel has been there for almost 10 years, its called depth. Mizzou has been putting in great dlinemen in the NFL for a while now.

You are solely basing this talent argument by stars, which is silly. According to star rankings, we are more talented than Oregon and Stanford.

The key difference from opposing teams and ours is that the coaches have actually developed the talent for 3-4 years, something Dooley did poorly at. His best players were ones that he didn't coach up.

Constatine Ritzman said it best, a senior 3* will more than likely be better than a true freshmen high 4*.

It really didn't look like defensive scheming was the issue in the auburn game. Our players just didn't play with sound fundamentals at all. Angles/getting off blocks/closing gaps
