Just got back from seeing it. Could've been better, but I liked it. Doesn't take a lot to entertain me though.

The acting wasn't fantastic and the special effects could've been better at times. The last 45 minutes or so had some really fun parts in it though, so it was enough to make me say that it was an OK movie. I'd say 6/10

The music made it for me. So recognizable, and in just the right place in the movie.

Still pissed I didn't get to see Will Smith though.

technically you did. it was just in photograph form...

and yet he still had the most charisma in this movie.

First off, the special effects were excellent. That was one of the more impressive part of the movie.

Loved the inclusion of the original theme throughout and then the actual song over the credits. That was great.

Honestly, I dont know what some of you were expecting, the first one most is mostly dumb as hell too...but it was fun and so was this one. Maybe not quite as much but still a good time. Take the movie for what it is, the quintessential summer blockbuster...just like it's predecessor.

It's really not, though. Yeah, it's a 90s action movie, so stylistically it can be a little cheesy, but all things considered it was a good 90s action movie.

Its better than a lot of similar movies for sure. I love the original, any time it's on I watch it.

It's getting absolutely destroyed by the critics, and by audiences too. Glad I decided to pass on this one.

It's one of those movies that was awesome when it came out in the theatre. By the time it hit video you realized how bad it really was.

exactly. then why mention it?

aliens, explosions, and mass destruction doesn't give it a pass. just look at the transformer movies.

Uh, he might've mentioned it because he enjoyed watching it? "Entertainment" is a relative term. Just look at pro sports, women's mud wrestling, and Kenny Chesney. What someone enjoys watching doesn't have jack to do with what someone else does.

i don't think you understood what my post was implicating.

no need to give me some backlash about what people consider entertainment. that didn't really have anything to do with that post.

the bold comes off as kind of a cheap response towards those of us who found the film nothing more than mediocre. he seems to imply that those of us who didn't like it, primarily didn't like it because we went into it with huge expectations that it was going to be some Oscar winning drama.

would bet my life that 99.99% of the people going into this movie are going in with the expectations/knowledge that this movie is nothing more than an alien invading, huge explosion, mass destruction summer blockbuster spectacle. nobody is expecting some profound award winner.

my post (the bold at least) basically just agree with him that yes, obviously it's not going to win awards and nor is it supposed to be that kind of movie. so therefore, what reason was there to even say that part (if not a cheap attempt at saying our thoughts/opinions are a bit incorrect/swayed)? it's pretty much a given. it quite frankly annoys me when people assume things like that.

the 2nd half of the comment just further supplanted why I gave the movie a negative review. I didn't dislike it due to me going in expecting something serious. I knew exactly what to expect. I disliked it because it was a mess, was not very entertaining to me, had numerous flaws, and not remotely any heart or charm. Just because it is intending to be a non-serious/goofy mass destruction blockbuster, doesn't automatically make the movie a good one. if he enjoyed it, then cool. good for him. just don't act like other people's opinions are off because of your assumptions. we all know what assume does.

I haven't seen it so I won't comment but I get what he's saying. The line about it not being an award winner is typically thrown out as some sort of free pass for criticism.

Even if it had low expectations doesn't mean it can't still suck.

Know one is giving a really good reason for not liking it!

I have heard some saying the reasons for not liking it are it's just explosions, no plot, it's a rehash of the original, bad CGI. What were you expecting in a Independence Day sequel?

The reason I bolded my rating is because I've always done it a and on film site I am a member of when you give your rating you bold it.

just fyi, my posts is not regarding that (the movie title and your rating). it's regarding the section of your post that I put in bold. i can see how that could get confusing though.

I thought the original was a fun and light movie without being super corny. This one had horrendous writing and terrible acting from both the new members of the cast and the originals really seemed to phone it in as well. I was hoping it would be similar to the first one and the only real similarity is that there were aliens with superior technology. I find most movies to be at least decent even though every movie isn't great. This one was like a bad ScyFy channel movie except it wasn't bad enough to be funny and entertaining. It was just miserable to even sit through once.

And the fact that they set it up for another sequel at the end really cemented how much of a shameless money grab with minimal effort they were putting into it for me.

A) I didn't realize you were the chosen judge of what are valid reasons for not liking something or not. But this also connects to the other bolded part...

B) WDV literally just addressed this. You can't just dismiss people's reasons for not liking the movie just because they weren't "supposed" to be expecting much. What you seem to not be grasping is that people are saying EVEN taking into account it is supposed to be a brainless, popcorn movie that it was still not very good.
