Somewhat related, and happening now, my high school in Utah is the "Redmen" and the school board just voted to change it. The only thing I care about is what they change it to, but it's crazy how controversial this stuff can be on both sides. People that don't care about politics at all act like this is so important. Our priorities are so weird.

Funny since i would consider that name honoring Indians. I don't think Redman would imply losers, weak men or lack of strength. To me it says honorable, center of strength, community and pride.

That's one of the arguments, yes, but the fact that when this name was adopted the Indian kids weren't allowed to go to this school with the whites kind of puts a damper on the "the name was meant to honor them" angle.

I think it's a ****** name in the first place. Someone has proposed "Paiutes" (like pie utes), which is the local tribe, and I think that's a good compromise and a better name.
