Why am I so heavy-handed in my response? Because history shows us that affluenza will be labelled as the problem, that there was a faculty member or two that were let go as sacrificial lambs to appease the public, and there will be some token awareness / togetherness event coupled with lawyer-scripted half-baked apologies that do precious little to prevent such things in the future.

There's room for grace somewhere, I'm just trying hard to find it.

The point is this: Phillips is not simply a random Native man who was accosted by “racist” MAGA-hat wearing teens, as the mainstream press has reported. He is connected to leftist activists who donate large sums to leftist causes. And now, he is personally fundraising off the mainstream press’ misdeeds.

Given that the full, unedited video of the interaction between Phillips and the students shows that Phillips clearly approached the students, and given that he is connected to left-wing social justice causes, one could conclude that he targeted the teenagers for their support of President Donald J. Trump. Yet the mainstream press narrative is exactly the opposite – that the boys targeted Phillips.

Additionally, this is not the first time that Phillips has been at the center of controversy involving alleged racism against the Native Population. In 2015, Phillips claimed that he was “bombarded by racial slurs” by students at Eastern Michigan University.

Maybe if the accusations of dishonesty weren't so generalized.. Rather than people saying "the media" or the "fake news", maybe call out the specific reports of inaccuracies or lies , and hold them individually accountable. I've seen plenty of twitter comments that are offensive, and what appeared to be an ill-conceived BuzzFeed article about white privilege, but very little pointing out who in the mainstream media said what.

Look at most of the rest of the democratized world. Multiple parties mean forming blocks to govern. You're going to end up with A vs B no matter how things shake out, and both sides will always think they're better than the other.

The goal of survival is to figure out how to not have contempt for the other side. Remember that their opinions formed through action and experience just like yours did. Look for middle ground.

Here's the thing. This case along with the Buzz Feed nonsense the other day should be a serious wake up call to the public as a whole. It is a very loud alarm that the media no longer cares about the facts and being honest brokers of information. They are ready to jump on anything that slants towards whatever they feel like their stance is and damn the facts.

We deserve better. We should be demanding better.

We are getting better. Were just not getting better from the traditional media sources. Vid cameras on cell phones may be the most powerful tool in our search for facts.
