According to Ainge just now, Dooley ripped off VFL from Inky Johnson. Did not know this but thought everyone should know. Dooley ripped off the term VFL and ran off Inky according to Ainge.

I wouldn't be surprised. Dooley never had an original thought except to fake a punt on his own 20 or go for 4th down at his own 40

Fantastic! The one bright spot from the Dooley era has been stripped from Son of Barbara. We can now remember him for all the things we should remember him for: losing, bamboo, losing, failing, looking for Rommel, shower-gate, and losing.

If Butch heard "VFL" from Inky and decided to make it the name of our development program, we would all celebrate him for taking a great name and turning it into something bigger. Since Dooley is gone, he "ripped it off."

I don't like Dooley either, but lets be a little more balanced with our criticism.

The Anderson center also has Dooley's fingerprints all over it. Hamilton also left us a beautiful stadium and basketball arena. I feel like when people leave us, it means 100% of their legacy is bad. On the whole, I think both Dooley and Hamilton failed at their job, but that doesn't mean we can't give them kudos for the few good things they were able to leave behind.

I heard one of the Dallas Cowboy assistant coaches say on the radio the other day that "Dooley is re grouping and digesting all that he learned from being head coach of a major college program and he hopes to get another opportunity at a major program soon"

I laughed because I don't think Dooley will ever be a major programs coach again. I don't know any A.D. would risk being fired by hiring Dooley.

Dooley needs to go back to a smaller college program ie. Ball State, Furman, Toledo, Akron....... because other programs are out of his league.

Only positives about Hamilton is (1) he hired Bruce and (2) he could raise the hell out of some money to further the program....

On every other level, he failed..............

Or not go for it at all against Mizzou....in the 4th quarter....with 43 seconds to go....with Bray, Patterson, and Hunter....to lose.....in overtime.

So glad that joke of a coach is gone.

When did Dooley ever try to "run off" Inky?

According to Ainge, Inky was already sort of unofficially acting as a VFL coordinator. Once Dooley heard the "VFL" term from Inky he decided to create the VFL Coordinator position and the proceeded to hire someone else for the job instead of Inky. Dooley also started using the "VFL" term publicly and never once credited Inky for being the one who came up with it. Inky being the pure class guy that he is, never once brought it up or called Dooley out on it.

Not for nothing, but Special Ed came up with Vol For Eternity (VFE).
After all, Vol loyalty doesn't end when you kick the bucket.

If Butch did copy VFL from someone else, I'd expect him to at least give a nod to that person. Now, consider that person is Inky - the one Vol who may have laid the most on the altar for our entertainment. If Butch had taken Inky's idea and not credited him with it, I'd be pissed at him, too.

I imagine heaven as a continual game in which the Vols beat Florida, Alabama, and Georgia handily all at the same time.

Were you not following the program when Dooley was here? He wouldn't let ex players on campus or to visit practice and such without written approval.. He didn't embrace the former player like CBJ has..
