Are people here going to move on? Or are they going to be carrying on with their moral high-horse Pearl bashing two or three years from now?

Yep, if someone claims that lying to the governing body of one's profession and conspiring with others to lie is unethical, that person is clearly sitting on a moral high-horse.

Haven't you heard? No other coach in the history of the game has ever lied to the NCAA, recruits or anyone else for that matter. Only Pearl did that and he's a godd*mn cheat AND a liar.

Meanwhile, every single person on this board has probably lied to their boss and slept well the next day.

Yeah, the everybody else argument works well when trying to make Pearl the victim. Actually, no one else is currently in the situation Pearl is in. Even Tressell, didn't lie to investigators. Stupid is as stupid does. Quit trying to justify Pearl's ethics. There is no justification.

I'm not, you are. I'm comparing what Pearl did to what the others have done at Ohio St, North Carolina and Miami right under their head coach's nose. It's not even freakin' close. He lied to the big, bad NCAA and they got their feewings hurt. Yeah, you don't do that obviously, but it's not like he was head coach during a Boats N Hoes or Tats for Cash ring either.

Tressel will get hammered worse than Pearl. The NCAA may not be a beacon of consistency but they are steadfast on at least one thing: you lie or fabricate facts to the NCAA, during an investigation or just a routine compliance check, you're getting a show cause. Happened at UConn, it happened at Tennessee, it will happen to Tressel.

Whether Bruce "came clean" because of his conscience or just realized that he was about to get stuck, so he tried to foster some good will by "coming clean" may be irrelevent. He lied. He came right out and told the guests at the BBQ that he acknowledged breaking NCAA rules by having them there. He asked them not to say anything. He called parents after the investigation started and again requested that they not reveal info to the NCAA. If you are the NCAA, why WOULDN'T you give him 3 years?

He didn't? He lied to the NCAA, the University, and was still lying during his press conference.

He lied by signing a document that he was not aware of any violations. He did not lie face to face to investigators that were investigating the alleged violations. Big difference.

Not really, but ok.

We'll see when his show-cause comes down.

I certainly agree that Tressell should get much worse punishment than Pearl. The only point is that as far as the lie goes, Pearl lied in an interview with investigators while Tressell lied via routine paperwork. Both are lies, but Pearl lied when he was being investigated during an interview with the investigator. Again, stupid is as stupid does.

You know as well as I that Pearl will be blamed for every
loss for the next five years. The group that wanted him fired will say anything for absolution.
