And I'm completely ignorant to the tech of wireless charging, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. What if you spill something on the pad?
It's just inductive charging. It uses an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two objects through electromagnetic induction. Energy is sent through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, which can then use that energy to charge batteries or run the device. It's actually been around for quite a while. Some Sonicare model toothbrushes for instance use wireless charging. You put it on a base but there is no metal to metal contact. I'd imagine it's a slower charging process compared to direct wire.
