iPhone

Does anyone in Nashville have an iPhone 5 yet? I noticed mine never switches off of 3G. Sprint definitely has 4G in this area, so I'm confused. Are LTE and 4G different? I also read where Nashville should be getting Sprint LTE by the years end.

Can anyone clear this up for me? Either way, this phone is blazing fast.

4G & LTE are different. Whatever service your getting in a particular location is what it will show or should show.

I'm only getting 4G, I believe LTE is suppose to be here around end of this year or first of next.

Wait, I guess this is what I was talking about. Sprint was widespread 4g in Nashville. Where I am currently, I've had solid 3-4 bar 4G for the past year or so on my android. LTE was already enabled, cellular data is on, and roaming is now off. Still only says 3G.

Maybe a Sprint thing? I guess like your phone, I would have assumed I would get 4G, and then LTE later on.

Do a speed test & see what you get.

If I was an iPhone, how would i go about testing my speed?

There's a speed test app.

Thanks for the help. I'm at like 12% battery, I better do this when I get home. I'll post the results. I'm kind of ignorant about these technical things.

Nashville should at least be 4G on all networks. The speed test will give you an idea at least of the data speeds you're getting & you can ask somebody at Sprint what the deal is when you get a chance.

One more, probably stupid question. I've been doing a lot of reading today about how terrible speeds have been on Sprint ever since the iphone launched. If I were to decide to return the phone within the 14 day window and switch to Verizon, would I need a new phone?

Probably. I think the Verizon iPhone 5 will work with AT&T but that's the only one that will work with another carrier. I think.

I'm kind of frustrated. I bought from Apple, and I've been told I can return it within 14 days and get out of the contract.

Sprint has 4G in Nashville. However, it's WiMax.

There are 2 different 4G technologies (and then some other things that T-Mobile and ATT call 4G). Sprint was first to 4G and used WiMax. Think of this as betamax. Decent technology but everyone worldwide was pretty much switching to LTE.

LTE is another 4G technology, say VHS. Sprint has LTE in a few cities, but not many yet. Nashville should launch by end of the year according to all leaks and announcements so far.

Problem with Sprint is the fact they have been trying to support 2 different networks and pimp out their service to all kinds of 3rd parties. Starting earlier this year, Sprint began the long task of rebuilding their network from coast to coast. Consolidate towers and technology into a much better setup for future growth. This obviously takes time and it certainly sucks while waiting.

When completed, Sprint's network will be fairly incredible. They way they are setting up towers and planning ahead should put them into a very good position by the end of 2013 when Network Vision (network rebuild) is completed.

In theory, on paper, and in specs, the new network should rival Verizon and ATT. This shouldn't be a surprise since it will be the newest network built.

Nashville, Knoxville, Chatt, and the tricities are all expected to have LTE around the end of this year. 3G is also improved once tower construction and remodel is finished.

Thus ends the state of Sprint for now....

Verizon phone will not work with AT&T. Also not sure the VHS and Betamax comparison is that good...but just nitpicking

The hassle of switching, if that's what I decide to do, is going to be ridiculous I'm sure. I really don't even know where to start.

I would imagine:

1. Return iPhone 5 to Apple Store and get refund for iPhone and Apple Care.

2. Activate old Sprint Android.

3. Go to Verizon store, order new phone.

4. Cancel Sprint and join Verizon when new phone gets here.

Does this sound about right to you guys?

Sheesh, that will be 3 different activation charges total.

If you had fulfilled your Sprint contract before you upgraded you should be able to return it & just start a new service with Verizon. You should be able to do all of that at the Apple store. A lot of times they will waive activation fees if you throw a bit of a fuss & you should get reimbursed for the Sprint one.

I'll definitely inquire about all of that. I was not under a contract when I ordered the initial phone. My only fear is how long it will take to get another iPhone (Verizon). I don't have a Verizon phone to activate in the meantime.

I suppose I could just return the phone to Apple, refuse to pay the activation because service sucked, and carry on with Sprint, not under a contract.

Then I can just bide my time until they are available in stores, and make the switch. Might be easier on the wallet this way too.

Just keep calling the Apple store & see if they have any. I'm sure they're getting some in.

Yeah, just return the phone and go back to month to month. If within 14 days (which you are) you can return the phone and go back to your old plan.

Go month to month until you can land the phone you want.

Just found this on Sprint's website:

If you aren't 100% satisfied with your product, return your device to your original place of purchase and contact us to deactivate service within 14 days of activation (day 1 of the 14 days starts when the phone is activated) or 14 days of purchase for accessories and devices purchased with no service plan (such as a wifi only tablet or notebook) and Sprint will:

***Refund the device purchase price (as long as device is complete and undamaged)
***Waive the Early Termination Fee (ETF) (as long as the device is returned)

Are you an existing customer who recently upgraded to a new device with a new contract term, and want to go back to an old device and prior contract status? No problem, you can select the best plan for you from our current price plan options (your previous service plan may no longer be available to you) and return the new device for a full refund. The same return process and requirements for new customers apply. We will remove any credits or discounts received in exchange for your new contract term and restore you to your previous contract term and service plan (if available).

I'm within the 14 day and within the 3 day window. I'm going to return it tomorrow, get back to month to month, and just wait a few weeks.

Getting those activation fees waived will be nice. I guess the only money I'll be out is for the Invisibleshield i bought and installed.
