Is Ainge Right?

I am most always on the positive side and loyal to a fault...But...even I am GREATLY concerned with the abilities of CCM....those who know me KNOW that I respect people like Coach Martin more than most gifted, talented type folks who succeed...I just appreciate what he stands for....BUT...I really have doubts about Coach Martin getting it done ON A CONSISTENT BASIS...Yeah we've had three or four significant wins but I'm sorry...there is NO WAY this team should be struggling like this....and I'm not necessarily talking about losing at Rupp...That's a tall order for any team....I hope he wins the rest of the regular season....We sweep the SEC tourney and go to the final four....Exactly...Who sees that happening????

What are you smoking?

Martin is never gonna have full support of thus fanbase, no matter what he does. Because of this the best thing may be for this team to have success, but Hart still make a move in the offseason.

I would say the chances of that are very slim, but that really may be what needs to happen.

100% correct. People have hated Martin since the day he was hired. I think he's earned criticism, but some here just need to be 100% honest and admit there is nothing he can do to win their support.

Even if we went to the Final Four this year, there'd be a big enough segment of the fanbase that would say he got lucky and talk about how we'll still suck long term; I know because that very talk has been posted here.

Which makes me wonder if ANY coach not named Pearl will get full support. And if that answer is no, even if said coach is a proven coach, then we got some big problems.

Support will not be based on a name. It will be based on winning ... winning games AND winning fans. Bruce Pearl was not anointed when he arrived in Knoxville. He set out to earn the fans and did so. Martin was actually a step or so ahead when he came on the scene but has done exactly zero to build a relationship with the school or the fans.

Most ignorant statement I keep hearing on this board. If Cuonzo gets to the Final 4, I can assure you 99% of fans will jump on his bandwagon.

And yet I've read comment after comment where people have stated even if he had a good tourney run, they already believe he'll still suck in the future so it won't matter. Don't even act like people haven't said this here.

Really? So then why do so many who want Martin gone can only name Pearl as who they'd want as coach?

What are you and BTO talking about? When Zo first got here this board would make u nauseous with people falling all over Zo....there were comments like....Zo covered his mouth when coughing, I'm so glad he is our coach......with every loss and missed tourney support has decreased.

The reason every one brings up pearl is bc he won and had huge upsets that most of us still can't believe we watched.

Tried to tell this to the martinites many times. They don't care about winning or the program as long as martin stays.

The first one. Martin wasn't highly received like you make it out tone.

He had his highest support after the first year.

Maybe because he overachieved with his first team. He is horribly underachieving this season. Thus the majority of fans are frustrated

I don't think anyone was jumping up and down but I don't remember it being too much negativity besides a vocal minority.....the attendance numbers show that people were still behind Zo and this program.

They gave him a chance but we might be defining support differently.

To say Martin was highly received is laughable. And if no one remembers, the vast majority was ready to can him after the Austin Peay game.

It wasn't until they turned it on in the SEC schedule that people started supporting him.

No I didn't. I was addressing the claim that many were ga-ga over Martin's hiring, and that's complete bullcrap.

Not to mention "support" is relative. It still wasn't near the level Pearl got.

I was against giving Pearl a raise after the first year. I didn't get on board the Pearl train until he came back after being 17 points down at the half with Texas.
