If he doesnt make the change till the end of the season what does it really matter. Its not like good coaches are just sitting around waiting for the first person to call...

It's been said on here a hundred times but here's 101 . . .

If you announce that he's fired today but let him coach out the season, there's even less chance we beat Vanderbilt (see: Wyoming 2008). Lose to Vandy = no bowl game. Bowl game = more $$, extra practices, national exposure. That's why most people believe nothing will be announced until next Monday, following the Vandy loss.
