Is Dave Hart inept?

Hart is a professional. It would be inept to publicly and spontaneously make a statement just because the fans want him to. He's got the best interests of the football program in mind. Just relax and let it play out.

I Hope you are right.

Is getting beat by the 6th best team in the ACC in the "We're 6-6 and both suck Bowl" really the kind of national exposure we need right now?

Versus the alternative - not going to a bowl two years in a row and 3 of the last 5? Yes.

Guys, Hart is handling this thing beautifully for the following reasons:

1.) Public perception at UT: Behind the scenes, Hart is checking potential coaches interest and has been for weeks now. I remember the Dooley hire and being PUBLICLY turned down by coach after coach (Muschump hurt the worst because he is such an a$$clown). Those public rejections negatively impacted the outside perception of the University of Tennessee (which is unacceptable).

2.) Negotiation position: Fans have checked out on Dooley and therefore will not come out to support the product he puts on the field. This puts Hart in a superior position with a.) Cheek (gives Hart more juice regarding the academic/athletic issues) and b.) the boosters (gives Hart more options on the potential coach Pool due to the desperation for the future success on the field.). The smaller the attendance the lower the ticket, concessions, and merchandise sales.

3.) Recruiting: Recruits are hanging on to see what UT does rather than jumping on another coaching staff which is currently in place. Note: I understand our recruiting class isn't the best right now, but it could get much worse in a hurry.

Note: Waiting to announce the fire of Dooley doesn't put us behind other schools looking for a new coach. Any coach that's worth a $hit will wait for the UT job to open up (if for nothing more than to negotiate a larger payday).

My guess is that Hart is watching volnation to see how many different theories can be posted about what no one knows how or when something will happen. He must get a real laugh (if he cares) at all the insiders and friends of boosters and folks that don't understand what is taling so long. Hart has the keys. He will open the door and let us in when he wants to.

If Hart didn't sit down and have a heart-to-heart (no pun intended) after we couldn't pull out what was, in my mind anyway, a must-win at Miss State, then he is no better at his job than Dooley is?

For Dooley to have a snowball's chance in haydees of keeping his job, the edict "should have been" this team needs to look impressive and improving down the stretch. Once we're down 7 to Troy in the 4th quarter, and we've given up 700 yards, what could there possibly have been left to think about? The money??? How can you afford to "fire him"? Once that day came, how could we afford not to?

A day late and a dollar short as far as I'm concerned. Beating Missouri or Vandy would be pretty hefty upsets after watching the Troy game.

At this point, keeping Dooley on does more harm than firing him, IMO. Dooley needs to go.

Maybe he's still trying to round up the $8 or $9 million needed for all these buyouts. If the boosters don't come up with it where would Hart turn?

He is going to look absolutely inept or like a genius. I don't think there will be any middle ground on this one.

With Assassin's Creed 3, Halo 4, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 all coming out this past couple of weeks, Hart has been busy. Dude is a hardcore gamer.

Dooley basically said Hart told him he hasn't made a decision yet, so either the sources are wrong or Dave Hart lied to him, and he doesn't think Dave Hart lied to him.

Obviously for us we have the idea that Dooley may be lying to the media because he doesn't want to talk about it or has been told not to make an announcement.

Either way the media is going to stick by what they reported and this is looking like another PR train wreck.

The program needs the money that would be brought in by a bowl game. Remember the Wyoming game, after they announced before the season was over that Fulmer was not coming back. They are worried the team would tank and lose the Vandy game if they fire him now. Whatever you guys feel about Dooley and how much you 'think' the players dont like him, the team has a better chance of making a bowl game if they are not distracted by the fact that their coach just got fired.

This moment could define the rest of Hart's AD career. He will need to step carefully on this one.

He better hope he nails it. If Auburn, Arky and UK get good coaches and we settle again it will look like he's done nothing and waited way to long to get to work.

Just wondering why he is dragging this out so long.

Maybe because he knows more than you. Maybe because he can figure out how deep the UT AD can go into the red by making the knee-jerk decision you want regardless of how it could hurt the UT further. Maybe he is in an exchange with a coach he's pursuing and unlike Hambone, making sure the coach is hired before dismissing CDD. Maybe that's why Hart and not you and your impatient leap before you look ilk aren't AD.

my gut tells me they are working a deal with a new coach right now that noone knows about, and then when everything is official they will announce DD is fired..."and now I am proud to introduce to you the next coach of the UT football program...(insert big name hire) Please join me in welcoming him to the UT family!!"

I guess all along I've taken some comfort in the notion that Hart would do the right thing here no matter what. But I don't really have anything positive to go on and I have to admit that my faith in him is waning. The more UT fans I talk to, more of them feel the same way.

1) He's had virtually no communication with the fans throughout this whole Fall. He's been like a ghost. I mean not even positive communication, encouraging the fans, making announcements, etc. For all of Hamilton's many many faults, he did communicate with the fans.

2) The fact that he now says - through Dooley - that he hasn't made up his mind is scary. If he doesn't know by now, then he's got issues.

3) He's watching the fanbase unravel, the team spiral downhill (again), and news sources are claiming things that may or not be true, and he just ignores it all. Maybe he's the one fiddling while Rome burns.

4) As much as I want Dooley gone, and I DO WANT HIM GONE, I'm starting to kinda feel sorry for the guy. I mean he's being left to dangle in the wind, having to tell the media about his own job status b/c Hart doesn't seem to have the (foot)balls to do it. It's almost cruel at this point.

We are way past the point where the fanbase deserves to hear something from Hart. That doesn't mean he has to act now, it means he needs to acknowledge the fans' concerns and communicate with them. If he really hasn't decided, then he needs to put out a statement saying that he is reviewing and monitoring the situation, that he hears the fans' concerns and takes them seriously, and that he will make a decision at (whenever) time.

The longer this rides out, the higher chance that he will continue to lose the fanbase and then it'll be him that fans are ready to run out of town.

There is a plan in place. No one will like it, and it may take a month. What about Fisher at FSU? He hates his AD

Have patience, word on the streets is Hart is keeping his mouth shut until the end of the year because an agreement has already been made under the table that necessitates silence. I'm crossing my fingers anyways

There's no plan in place. Hart has never done this before and is stalling for time. It's going to cost us, because Arkansas and (probably) Auburn are out there already talking to coaches' agents. Hart is sitting around hoping the boosters land a hail mary with Gruden. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't make any sense to me why Hart wouldn't have started the official coaching search by now, unless he was in over his head or was trying to keep Dooley (which would mean that he doesn't care if UT wins or loses).
