Just an interesting conversation I've had with a few friends recently

I'd lean towards yes

Just had a conversation today about whether Eli will get into the HoF or not. I think that if he wins a second ring, he'll make it in but I don't think he's at the level of some other current HoF type QBs (namely, his brother).

I voted no. The upper echelon consists of Rodgers, Brady, and Peyton, with a second tier having Brees, Rivers, Eli, Schaub, Big Ben, Stafford, and any others that I missed. There are quite a few in that second tier, but there is a huge gap IMO between the best and the rest (Brees is close, I think).

i used to be no, but with so many qb's throwing the types of picks that he used to, he's working his way up the list by default.

Maybe. He is definitely a winner; but, then again, so is Big Ben and I would hesitate to qualify him as an "elite quarterback" while still maintaining that he could be viewed as approaching "elite player" status (if that makes any sense, whatsoever).

He has definitely stepped up this year. I think Big Ben is in the HoF no matter what if he gets a 3rd ring. I think Eli is in if he makes a couple of more pro bowls and wins another ring. Just can't see him ever winning an MVP.

I think when it is all said and done he'll be one of those players who is always borderline on the votes. Maybe gets in a couple of years after he's eligible.

Honestly, Eli Manning is having the 2nd best season of any NFL QB right now (Rodgers).

That's the way I see it with Big Ben. Put him in a QB challenge against half the other QB's in the league and he gets worked, but his size and athleticism make up for a lot of shortcomings he has as a passer.

As for Eli, real borderline. If you're going to break the top guys into two tiers, namely Manning, Brady and Rogers at the top, then I would buy Eli being in the next group. His problem is inconsistency from game to game.

Namely, the total eggs he laid against Washington and Seattle.

I wouldn't call either of those "total" eggs. 270 yards and a pick at 8.4 YPA is not an egg. It's mediocre. He threw 3 picks against Seattle, but he also threw for 420 yards and 3 TD's at 10.7 YPA.

Along with YankeeVol's point, it's all about perception. Everybody remembers when Eli Manning lays an egg, but we tend to forgive the eggs laid by Tom Brady (NYG, DAL, and BUF) and Drew Brees (TB, STL, and maybe JAX).

I did look at QBR before posting that, and Eli did do fairly poorly. In the Giants two losses this season, Eli was 19th in week 1 against the Skins and 25th against the Seahawks. Those games you mentioned with Brady: 8th in the NFL against Buffalo, 16th against Dallas and 13th against New York. Also, Buffalo, NYGiants and Dallas are 5th, 7th and 11th in opposing passer rating, while Washington and Seattle are 20th and 22nd respectively. So, in effect, Tom Brady has ranged mediocre to decent against fairly stout pass defenses, while Eli has had two mediocre to bad games against bad pass D's.

Brees game against TB wasn't that bad, but his performance against STL was definitely inexcusable.

If his name was Eli Jackson, I think people would look at him a lot more favorably.

I think he is. After Rodgers, Brady, Brees, and Big Ben, he's #5.

Passer rating or Total QB rating? Passer rating is a very flawed stat, IMO.

Top tier(Elite):

Rodgers, Peyton, and Brady

2nd Tier:

Brees, Big Ben, Eli, and Rivers

3rd Tier:

Vick, Schaub, and Stafford

Eli is good not elite. Just one man's opinion.

I think Eli has moved into the top tier. Last night he looked a lot like big brother with that come back.

Maybe 3rd (Rogers, Brees).

14 4th quarter TD's to tie the all-time record. 6 successful 4th quarter comebacks. Giants will be very dangerous if they continue to run like they did yesterday.
