Atleast at Tennessee?

A win Friday at Georgetown would likely vault the Vols into the top 25 for the first time under Martin.

National media would start to take notice and give some warranted attention to the program.

It would create the momentum that this team could really build off of going forward and really set the tone for the rest of the year. A win at Georgetown is one that goes on your resume as a very good looking win come march.

IMO yes, this is the most important game for Martin since he has been here.

No.

That win at Florida was bigger.

It's an OOC game on the road against a team you and you are the underdog.

It would be a big win, but not the most important game.

I'd have to agree with you, BTO. I don't think this game is make or break but I do think it's crucial on several different levels.

That's the only one I could think of, but in the grand scheme of things what was on the line that game? We weren't really playing for the tourney, we were just playing another road conference game.

This game has ALOT to it and opens a lot of doors IMO.

Some of the games last year were bigger wins because they were conference games. This game is something more than just a win, though. It's a road game against a perennial Big East Contender and would set the tone for a potentially strong season. Like the OP said, this would vault us into the top 25 and create some real momentum.

1) Conference wins are always bigger.

2) What, other than some RPI help, does G'Town mean in the grand scheme of things? Some national recognition? We got that against UConn last year. We don't recruit DC. Hell, winning at Memphis last year would have been bigger.

There's recruits on a national level watching Tennessee waiting to see what Martin can do...this would absolutely grab their attention.

I'm not necessarily saying this alone, but it sets the tone. You get the attention of a lot of people, then say beat virgina and Wichita state and all of a sudden Tennessee is the hot name heading into a big time showdown with Memphis.

Every game in the latter half of conference play last season was a more important game than the one on Friday.

Against a barely ranked G'Town? Ehhhhh.....

Virginia and Wichita State aren't that good. UT should win.

Sure, you'll grab some attention. Beat UK at Rupp, sweep UF again, kick Memphis' ass by 30 and that will show something.

HO-HUM. The season just started and we are 4-1. Be super nice if we beat the snot out of G'town. It's a long way to go. But right now this team could be really good & really special. I will not get too giddy just yet. BTW, what's the word on Maymon & when he's due back cause he's the motor that drives this team.

Thats why I said so far...if we are ranked and those are meaningful games they trump this one...but those games need to have something on the line IMO.

I would say the Vandy win last year that wrapped up 2nd in the SEC was the biggest win so far. And would be bigger than beating Georgetown this year.

Wichita State is undefeated, beat VCU and Iowa, and will probably still be undefeated when they come to TBA. I wouldn't be surprised if UT drops that game.

Why did I say that Wichita State isn't very good? I know that Marshall has done a good job with that program and went to the tourney last year!

Zans, what the hell was I thinking there?

UT only plays Fla once in the regular season this year unfortunately, but they play Ky, Candy, Bama, Ole Miss and UGA twice. Damn conference expansion.

While I don't know how big this game in the long run will be, it certainly will matter for national perspective.

That's more what I was shooting for, could've worded better.

A win also year against Florida was big for sure and also Vandy, but what was the game for? It was unlikely it was going to earn us a birth in the NCAA tourney, so really it was nothing more than just an upset over a good team.

A win verse a ranked Georgetown team, who just gave the number 1 team in the country all they wanted, and AT their house...i just think a win there would really open some eyes on a national level.

Maybe help in the recruitment of guys like Kevon Looney who aren't southeast area players.
