Is Fridays game the most important so far for Martin?

Why did I say that Wichita State isn't very good? I know that Marshall has done a good job with that program and went to the tourney last year!

Zans, what the hell was I thinking there?

I'm not sure. I was wondering the same thing.

They did better than us last year, and won the NIT two years ago.

Besides the Maui last year against Duke and Memphis, this is the biggest statement game nationally he could make.

No. But could be one of his biggest tests so far.
Starting line up 4 guys 6-8 or taller.
4 starters averaging double figures.
How will he defend?

I've been on G'Town since the offseason. I knew they'd be a tough team and would compete in the Big East this year. I've had this game circled ever since it was announced. Win or loss, I just hope we play really hard and don't give up.

The biggest concern for the Vols in playing the Hoyas is Otto Porter. Not sure we have anyone that can contain him.

GTown will be a good test for the Vols, but after what I seen last night there is no doubt in my mind the Vols can take this game. I think Martin has this team playing some damn good basketball right now. I say Vols by 6 as of right now.

No i think it would be a great win, but we just need to make the tourney and most people will be happy including me.

GTown is playing really well right now, so the Vols will be pretty big underdogs going up to DC.

This game, however, is not as important as some of you think. UT has plenty of other top teams on the schedule, some of which are conference games. If UT hadn't lost to Okie State, this game may be more important because winning could vault UT up a few seeds in March and give some good momentum. As it stands right now, it's more important for UT to win 2 of the next 3 than for them to beat GTown.

If D'Montre Edwards wants to make a statement, then Friday night is it.

Because he has the length and size to do it.

But it's going to be a team effort.

I'd say it's pretty important. Definitely one of the most important up to this point in his career at UT

It's important, but not his most important. Unfortunately I think the game against Ole Miss in the SEC Tourney last season was bigger. We finished second in the conference despite an unremarkable overall record. Win that game, and we could go to the big dance. Win the next game too, and we should go to the big dance. Instead, we shut down against the zone.

Everyone is allowed a brain fart per month. It took you till the 26th. I usually use mine up during the first week. :)

The most important game so far was the 1st round of the SEC tourney last year.

Yeah, I've been trying to forget that game ever happened, but you're probably right. Quite a bit on the line in that game and they let it slip away.

I get what you're saying -- something like beating Texas on the road was for Pearl's team. Will be nice and would help as a resume enhancer for the NCAAs, but I don't see it as an earth-shaker like the Texas win. This Tennessee team is supposed to make the tournament. A win would be wonderful, but a loss would hurt more than a win would help - if that makes sense.

Atleast at Tennessee?

A win Friday at Georgetown would likely vault the Vols into the top 25 for the first time under Martin.

National media would start to take notice and give some warranted attention to the program.

It would create the momentum that this team could really build off of going forward and really set the tone for the rest of the year. A win at Georgetown is one that goes on your resume as a very good looking win come march.

IMO yes, this is the most important game for Martin since he has been here.

I have not seen Georgetown play this season but to expect the Vols to go in and beat them on their court without Maymon may be asking too much. Would love to see it happen but not getting my hopes up. Will take our best game of the season by far IMO.

I am ALLLLLL up on this notion with you. I feel like CQM and the boys feel it, too. I think what we saw in the Oakland game (as it pertains to intensity) was just a precursor of things to come. When "intensity" is going to be your mantra , you are usually vulnerable early, but that sh** starts to pay off quickly and with huge returns. Heck, with Maymon, we are world beaters, but without him we are still going to compete and, I would say, make a real "showing". There is no other BB coach that I would feel this certainly about lrading into this seson. These boys will FIGHT and I even think that thr Ok St loss will benefit them this seaason

1) Conference wins are always bigger.

2) What, other than some RPI help, does G'Town mean in the grand scheme of things? Some national recognition? We got that against UConn last year. We don't recruit DC. Hell, winning at Memphis last year would have been bigger.

Conference wins don't compare to big OOC wins IMO, and I believe the tournament committee looks at it that way as well. Ask Bama how much good it did to go 12-4 in conference a few years ago. While we went dancing with an 8-8 conference record, or Big East teams who go sub .500 and make it in. Conference wins are of little consequence if the conference isn't worth a damn.

I don't know about most important, but I don't think I've ever been so ready for a basketball game. All this stupid football coach crap going on, I can't wait to focus on something good about Tennessee.
