Is Huepel bad at recruiting?

Once the NCAA cloud was removed Heupel can now recruit without that being held over his program by other schools What he has achieved in his first 3 years is amazing, look at it for what it is, a huge success!
Recruiting will be easier as long as they keep winning 9 or 10 a year. They slipped to 8 wins this year, though team wasn't nearly as talented as last year, that we can all agree in.
Go Vols

It’s the major knock on him that we heard when he came here from UCF, that his recruiting classes kept getting worse and he continued to look for diamonds in the rough that just weren’t there. I’m not trying to be reactionary but with the resources we have this shouldn’t be happening. Butch was able to put together better classes without NIL and much less success. What are y’all’s thoughts?
I think he's GOOD at recruiting, not great. The real question is if that's good enough to win championships.

And truth be told I always wonder how good our classes would be if we didn't have Rodney Garner, who was brought in before Heupel got here.

No it’s not good enough to win championships. If we were in the B10 or ACC maybe but not in the SEC. The quality of guys we have missed on and finished second to is astounding. Heupel is a good recruiter. But he doesn’t have any elite recruiters in his staff and it looks like he won’t hire any. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted him to try and hire Corey Raymond. UFs former DB coach. Really good recruiter. He is still available as of right now. He would be a massive upgrade over Martinez.

We still have a good class even with Echols flipping. The timing of that seems strange. Maybe CJH wants more portal space. That’s fine by me.

Do you guys like 7-5 and 8-4 ? That’s the type of recruiting results that these classes are gonna produce. Certainly not playoff caliber
Wow guy, this year's star average is elite. HE has only ***** been here 3 years after taking over the worst sh1t show in all of sports. It takes time to fix everything that was wrong with this dumpster fire

Right, we all know coaching has zero effect on final record. Just recruiting. That’s why A&M has been so good and why Mizzou won 10 games this year and we won 11 last year…..

Compared to Phillip Fulmer in the early years before he won the Natty? No Heupel is not great recruiter. That being said, he does seem find hidden talent and do a good job of developing talent. He also has built a pretty good culture. If he can climb consistently into the top 10, I believe the result will be the same.

No, but it does seem some more success on the field this year was a more key element to sustaining our recruiting momentum than many figured it was.

Like it or not we haven't been relative in the past decade and a half, last two years withstanding. Our program was a literal dumpster fire at the end of the Pruitt era and we had scholarship reductions that carried into this season. We still don't know how good CJH is, but considering what he's done recruiting thus far I'd say he's at least a very good recruiter. I'm not saying he needs another 5 years to get it together but I'm saying if he finishes with a class at 10-12 and has a 10 win season next year we could see a much higher rated class next year. Stability and winning cures a lot of woes. I'm pleased with the current progression but do agree the next step is making a jump in recruiting.

13th currently with 20 commits. I think we're like 6th or so in average recruit ranking. Recruiting seems to be doing fine if you ask me. Losing 1 recruit doesn't change that.
