Is it just me or?

Are people extremely deluded into thinking we are a “bad” football team.. We’ve only lost 1 game. College football this year is rivaling the 2007 chaos year and we have ONE loss. Are there improvements to be made? Absolutely. The last 2 games we left 21-28 points off the board because of execution. I’m seeing fans just trash every player and coach already and it’s pretty damn frustrating. I hate to say it, but it’s just plain ungrateful considering where we were just 3 years ago.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just gullible. I see potential for this team to get clicking and we see some real greatness.
There is MAJOR potenital.

We could win out or lose a couple more.

I am nervous about the remainder of this year and excited about next.

It’s all good though and nice progress

I can sum up Tennessee in one sentence.

We’re a really talented football team that can play some crappy football games at times.

If the playoffs started tomorrow we could go out and lose to almost anyone or get hot and win the whole damn thing. Every team I’ve seen this year has flaws, none of them are close to perfect. Literally anyone can win it all this year imo.

We don't pass the eye test and the offense isn't improving as the season goes on.

There is no such thing as a bad 7-1 football team but there is always room for improvement. I think this team has what it takes to make strides to become a very good to great team.
They just have to put it together- all aspects of the game… including special teams apparently.

I’ve been trying to rein in my own negativity and be less reactive lately. Game threads are always ridiculous.

I think people have this subconscious fear that maybe the dark ages aren’t really over yet, so they overreact to every loss or even negative play.

There’s also the fact that, as @Nerwen Aldarion and others mentioned, this team is a few plays here and there, a little bit better offensive execution away from being the damn Death Star. I truly believe that with how this defense is playing and how good Sampson is. I really hope Nico’s play in the 2nd half against Bama and the game tonight is indicative of what we’ll see from him going forward. Need OL to be 5% better each game and receivers to CATCH THE DERN BALL.

Even with the drops, fumble, and penalties it would be interesting to see how the game/games would’ve turned out offensively the last couple if we don’t have turnovers etc on the first drive of the game. I feel like if we finish those off with TD’s then I think our offense would turn the heat up. But with the issues on the first drives last couple games resulting in turnovers, penalties and missed kicks our offense becomes timid. Just my thoughts.

Not bad, terribly inconsistent. That's almost as bad as being bad. We have to fix our offense, and quick
Our offense not hard to fix it’s not even that bad… for multiple reasons we have yet to put it all together… everybody has part of the blame… rb fumbles in scoring position kicker hadn’t missed from inside 50 misses 3… 3 tds dropped Nico was on point as I knew he would be… I think we take a step vs msu and hopefully we can put enough together to go into Athens and win.

They are over because we are getting recruits. The bad/difficult playing even happe Ed in Fulmer era. We complained a lot about those offenses. Take seasons like 2007, 2006, 2004, and 2003 which are alright seasons but were full of frustration at the time. 2005 and 2002 were just flat out bad.

I will say though, if we do this start slow garbage against UGA, they’ll run us out the building and Vandy could give us some serious trouble in Nashville. The football gods have a way of making the pendulum swing and hit you in the nuts when you keep pulling out close games or playing sloppy halves. Need to clean it up.

I wonder if there had been a VolNation in 1998 if the fan base would have been so critical throughout the season, talking about how lucky we got here and how we can't beat better teams playing like we did there, just endlessly complaining.

This season reminds me of 1998 with the grind it out run game and lock down defense, which will keep us in any game against anyone. Clean up the penalties and drops and this season has a great chance to become really special.

I keep telling people "if they put it all together." Problem is they haven't.

Every week there's a thread on here talking about "feels like a breakout game for the offense." We're 8 games in y'all. This is who we are. We're good enough to find ways to win close games, and I'm not complaining, but the reality is:

- We're undisciplined. Over 100 yards of critical penalties almost every game.
- The offense cannot get out of its own way. Dropped balls, turnovers, patchy o-line play, and some pretty putrid play calling at times.
- Defense holds, but showed some seriously troubling stuff tonight against a miserably bad UK offense. Scrambling around before the ball is snapped, out of position, tackling, etc.
- Field goals are now a big ask, and that's going to hurt in these defensive games when our offense stalls in the red zone 50%+ of the time.

Georgia can roll us if we play like we did tonight down there. And I hate to say it, but Vanderbilt can beat us too. Absolutely have to lock in and tighten that stuff up. It's all fixable, but we don't seem to be able to fix it. A lot of the issues above have stayed the same, some have even become more prominent.
And?
TN can roll uga if they play like they did against kentucky and can dog walk vandy if they play like they did against Georgia st.

Why does that always get left out and it's only tn that sucks?

Our O-Line is not terrible, they are actually pretty solid at times. We have struggled at times especially in first half. We have stopped ourselves with crucial penalties at times I admit that. But we also seem to wear on teams and run the ball well as the game goes on. We have did that the last 3 games. We have protected Nico fairly well overall this year. We just have to start getting the passing game going, we have to throw it good and catch it. Eliminate turnovers and silly unnecessary penalties. GBO
