Didn’t he take an extended time off away from his job. Must’ve been a long shower to stay “clean”

I'm a huge fan of Pete, I want to see him go farther, and I think he should. But lets face it, transportation is a disaster right now. The rail strike is about to devastate. They called them into dc today to talk it out, and all signs are it failed. You combine that with the airlines, and highway systems right now?

Is this a problem? Yes, I want to see Pete succeed.
First, they did not call him into DC today, he was in Detroit for the Auto Show, and will then be traveling to Ohio (Toledo I think). Second, why do you want the Secretary of Transportation sticking his nose in a labor dispute between multiple railway unions and freight rail line owners? Key word there being unions. Seems like something Marty Walsh should be handling as Secretary of Labor, which he has been doing for weeks. Also, the NTSB has authority over freight rail, which is an independent agency within DOT that doesn't answer to Pete.

Pete, as well as other Cabinet members, have been involved in negotiations. We will see how it plays out. But to put the blame entirely on Pete and ignore every other facet of this issue is ridiculous and reeks of Bernie Bro crap you read on Twitter. Or the casual hatred in this thread because Pete is gay.

I'm trying to square why the far left and far right are wanting the Fed bois to get heavy-handed in this anyways. Horseshoe theory at work, I suppose.

You talking about the idiot that is demanding 50% EV sales by 2030 but no way of charging said vehicles?

article-7068-2.jpg
That is a Biden Admin policy goal. Pete can't, and firmly did not demand this at all. He supports it, yes. But he didn't "demand" it.

Also, there is $5 billion in funding to construct EV charging stations across the US from last year's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. One became operational the other day in my neck of the woods thanks to said funding.

So they’re building them to tell you not to use them?

Pete represents the democrat party. His political views are in direct opposition to the views of 80-90% of this political forum. Could it possibly be that posters dislike (I doubt many actually hate him) Pete because of these reasons and very few, if any, care that he’s gay?

I would say 90%, this board has taken a hard, hard right turn over the last few years. Anytime Pete is brought up on this board, it devolves into hate and bigotry. Every time, like clockwork. I'm sure some posters don't care about his sexuality, but there is a significant amount that do, and they make sure to let it be known.

Pete is an academic. He may be smart but he has zero real world application to be Transportation Sec. That’s a huge industry, with a lot of moving parts, regulation and one of the most vital to our economy. Not picking on him because like most bureaucrats and appointed Trans Secs in the past, they’re just out of their league. Shipping, trucking, airlines, rail lines…better have some experience in those industries if you want a good Secretary. JMO.

I disagree with you, but this is a criticism I can respect. Unlike csouth, who constantly talks about Pete's sexuality. I'm starting to think csouth has some repressed issues going on he needs to work through, since all he can seem to do is talk about who Pete is sleeping with. He's obsessed with it.

Lol please. His token appointment and ineptitude in everything he is involved in, especially politics, is what drives his sexuality to the forefront. It shows that these token diversity hires do nothing to benefit anyone.

You, yet again, keep bringing his sexuality up. You are obsessed with it. Every. Single. Post. He's married, move on dude.

Lol. Married. His sexuality is pointed out because it’s the only reason he was selected for any political position he’s been in…..and he’s been a failure at every one.

You acknowledge that he is a failure so far and has in no way performed his job adequately, yet you want to see him go farther and think he should. Interesting take there. Geez ... and people wonder why we get the government that we get. The voting population has gotten so idiotic that it is mind baffling.

This, from people who put lex luthor in the high office.

The man is fully competent. A naval inteligence officer who has been behind enemy lines many times. I'm wondering if Pete was the best choice for transportation.

Airlines are having a great year in response to what was expected. What's your issue there?

Airlines are. They’ve mostly recovered from the pandemic and airplanes are full again. They lost a lot of personnel due to early retirement programs that were a knee jerk reaction to Covid. Now they’ve had to cancel thousands of flights and take out capacity just to meet the schedule, paid the executive management teams huge bonuses while contracts for their employees expired over two years ago. Given the chance, those employees are gonna walk and they can’t be replaced anytime soon.
