That is a Biden Admin policy goal. Pete can't, and firmly did not demand this at all. He supports it, yes. But he didn't "demand" it.

Also, there is $5 billion in funding to construct EV charging stations across the US from last year's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. One became operational the other day in my neck of the woods thanks to said funding.

There is no way to power said vehicles, charging stations don't magically charge cars... you need energy.

He's an idiot, or its a plan for depopulation.

Besides the fact that flying sucks MAJOR ASS and is to be avoided at all costs?

Took me 21 hours to get from ohio to washington not long ago.

Took 10 hours for many browns to make it back from carolina.

All for the low cost of 5,000$ a ticket to be shoved between two trump hags that want to cough on you the whole trip drunk, after being accused of being a terrorist and getting your package felt.

Lets not forget that the pilots are so over worked they are making cross ocean flights on AUTOPILOT while they nap. I don't trust these airplanes anymore. They have been flying non stop for decades, and I don't trust the people working in them anymore.

should we turn to airport food options?

At this point we should start renting cube beds at the airport like japan.

You have to define success. If you define success as Americans paying more for environmental injustices (as well as the other injustices that white people have caused) the the sodomite has done an outstanding job. Remember, success is subjective.

I'm a huge fan of Pete, I want to see him go farther, and I think he should. But lets face it, transportation is a disaster right now. The rail strike is about to devastate. They called them into dc today to talk it out, and all signs are it failed. You combine that with the airlines, and highway systems right now?

Is this a problem? Yes, I want to see Pete succeed.
Pete is a threat to the current President and Vice President and much more moderate than the powers that be want, what makes you think he’ll be given a chance to succeed?

Agreed, I don't think Pete is dumb by any stretch of the imagination. Dumb people do not take such a thin resume and rise to a cabinet post. Pete is simply doing what he needs to do to advance himself, has no principles or convictions to guide him. If he did he would have resigned months ago.

Airlines are. They’ve mostly recovered from the pandemic and airplanes are full again. They lost a lot of personnel due to early retirement programs that were a knee jerk reaction to Covid. Now they’ve had to cancel thousands of flights and take out capacity just to meet the schedule, paid the executive management teams huge bonuses while contracts for their employees expired over two years ago. Given the chance, those employees are gonna walk and they can’t be replaced anytime soon.

Aren't we looking at a pretty huge number of airline pilots reaching mandatory retirement over the next 2-3 years?

There isn't even enough raw materials for the batteries, the crunch for metals hasn't even started yet. None of this is going to get cheaper, its going to get drastically more expensive.

So... there is no way to build all the storage, let alone have no real electricity to put into the storage. And no way in the future for average people to buy any of it.

For example, a single electric car battery weighing 1,000 pounds requires extracting and processing some 500,000 pounds of materials. Averaged over a battery’s life, each mile of driving an electric car “consumes” five pounds of earth. Using an internal combustion engine consumes about 0.2 pounds of liquids per mile.

And that is the easy minerals to get to. They have to move and process nearly a half million pounds of earth just to get about one freaking battery.

Moving to electric with current technology for vehicles is a 100-250 year process at least, if ever. Now stationary batteries like flow might help but not for vehicles.

Not completely true as you’re probably referring to a one off event that happened on Ethiopian Airlines. I doubt you’re flying them very often. US airlines have made huge investments in many brand new aircraft lately, from the new Airbus 330 NEO, 350 and 320/321s as well as the 787. There are some older aircraft flying, but when they cost millions of $$, they’re made to be in service for 25 years or more.

Pilots are overworked lately, but we do have FAA maximum duty days and flight times we cannot violate, but there is also the ability to call off a trip fatigued. Most have contractual agreements and are not required to fly overtime. Most rarely do and have a decent balance of time off vs work days. I’m working 10 days this month, but that’s because I had a vacation week. Otherwise, I typically work 14-15 days.

Depending on the block time, most transoceanic/international flights have three to four pilots. Some have two, but those are typically something like Boston to Dublin that only takes 5 1/2 hrs going over. Crews take turns on scheduled rest breaks throughout the flight on 3-4 man crews.

The autopilot is usually engaged on any flight anywhere from just after take off to 10,000 ft to 18,000 ft depending on how much hand flying the pilot chooses to do and it’s always on at cruise. It’s proven, safer flight management to have it on and crews monitor together what the aircraft is doing. Nobody is up there hand flying for an entire flight. There’s too much other work to do, like read the Wall Street Journal.

We’ve been in the middle of that the past few years and Covid was the catalyst with early retirement programs from airlines that gave the bulk of them a big shove out the door. Then travel rebounded and airlines got caught with their pants down. We still have a decent number retiring over the next few years though. Problem is there aren’t enough pilots coming out of the military fast enough and civilian aviation schools aren’t producing what they once did because it has been cost prohibitive vs your return on investment career wise. They’re trying to change that now, albeit too late. It won’t ramp up the number of qualified pilots very fast.

I fly 6-7 times a year, and only for the longer trips. I will drive if i can. Those air buses better work this time.
