Is Phil Steele a Pac 10 homer?

Doesn't matter. Not everybody is of the opinion that the SEC is miles ahead of all other leagues -- Or at least enough to the point where the teams should get a bye to schedule cupcakes. Same rule that applies to everybody applies to SEC teams as well; If your OOC is weak, you WILL pay for it in the rankings.

Agreed. When we look at rankings of teams, schedules, et. al, we have to remember we all LOVE the Vols and have a bit of homerism to what we say. Truth is in stats, not what we feel to be true.

Still, Tennessee's schedule was super super tough, I agree. Top 20? Absolutely! Top 10? Probably.

Look at how many times Notre Dame pops up on those schedules. We might've finally found the Irish a home.

they show up on more big 10 schedules.

i think michigan, michigan state, purdue, penn state.

"People can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that." - Homer Simpson

It's somewhat true. Stats can't measure everything. There are other factors that contribute to the difficulty of schedule other than just the W-L record of the opponents.

I actually think using W-L is a flawed way. It gives a little insight, but a 8-3 Boston College team would be a more difficult game than an 9-2 Northern Illinois team.

Some factors:

W-L record
Bowl team?
Game stats (Tennessee outgained opponents by 29 yards per game, 5-6 aberration?! - that kind of stuff)

For instance, Arkansas is going to be MUCH HARDER of a game than their 4-7 record from 2005 implies.

Yeah, Arkansas' 2006 record coming into the UT game may not be indicative of their talent. If McFadden is out for a few games, they could suffer. He'll be back by the UT game and they'll be at full strength.

I still fail to see Arkansas as some force... Yeah, a team that could snag a big win if they catch another team with their pants down, but the hogs still lack the overall talent to compete for anything.

Do you think Cal will be much improved? If so, you might as well think Arkansas will be too.

If only you were around in 98 and 99..... :banghead:

I HATE playing Arkansas, no matter how good we are or bad they are.

With that being said, Oregon State probably has the toughest schedule this year.

Yeah, I think they are little too hyped up, even though they will be better than your typical Ark. team. I think they'll go bowling and take down a couple of decent SEC teams. However, I still think UT will handle them. We need the front seven to play well and find someone to cover Monk. Maybe it will go into 7 overtimes again. Maybe Jason Witten will come back for his last year of eligibility and catch the game-winning TD.
