Is Romney's religion an issue?

I ask that question in several contexts.

Does it matter to you?

Does it matter in the race for the GOP nomination?

Would it matter in the general if he were the nominee?

It matters to me. those cult members kept to there own out in arizona. wouldn't even let my kids play with there kids. they are flat out weird. to me it is a cult.

Your attempt to equate Christianity with Mormonism is ignorant and your comments are borderline offensive.

Feel free to place me on ignore, it won't hurt my feelings in the least.

It doesn't change the fact that Mormons believe in redemption through Christ and his imminent return, just like every other Christian...while at the same time believe his return will happen somewhere north of I-70 in Missouri.

It is NOT disrespectful to Mormons to point out that their beliefs are NOT "just like every other Christian". Not even close. All you have to do is read their doctrines. They do have some secret rituals but they have documented their doctrines.

Ya. I was in no way defending the book of mormon or te church of latter day saints or w/e they call it. I was just putting a little perspective on the 'cult' word.

If we're going to say that mormonism is less believable than most other christian religions - then yes, i agree. Don't they believe Jesus has some connection in mid-america. I know I joke about them believing Jesus was born in Kansas City...

Something to the effect that Christ or the pre-incarnate Christ visited North America several thousand years ago. There's something about a lost race of people too that I haven't quite figured out that pre-date the American Indians.

J Smith found the plates in NY. However the place of Christ's return and center of New Jerusalem is in Independence, MO I believe... not far from where we live. They own a large piece of property there. There are some splinter groups that have contested ownership if I am not mistaken. One is centered in Mo instead of Ut. I believe they're called the Reformed Church of Jesus Christ or something like that.

I knew someone who married a member. She asked our views on their beliefs.

Probably the most unorthodox and fundamentally "un-Christian" belief they hold is that God was once a mortal and sinful man in some alternate universe/world. He was a very good Mormon so when he died he became a god of his own domain. His celestial wife/wives procreate souls to inhabit the physical bodies born on earth. According to their teachings, He has two spiritual sons- Jesus and Lucifer. Both were commissioned with coming up with a plan for man's redemption. He chose Jesus and Lucifer in bitterness rebelled.

Right, and Lutherans are not like Catholics, but both believe core Christian principles. Same with Mormons, they just take the absurd to new levels. It is one thing to be baptized, it is completely another to do it again as a proxy for your great grandfather.
