Is Saturday the Biggest Game in 23 years?

I've never been this nervous going into a vandy game. I'm on vacation this week and just want it to be over . One way or another.

So much on the line. "We" need this. To say we are actually "over the hump" we need to win this game. This isn't the biggest or best opponent we've faced this year, but this is by far the biggest most important game, to our program, in many many years.

That said, I believe we do.

Vols by Fiddy!!
Yep. We have to beat the teams that we are supposed to beat. Win at least half of the toss ups. And win a few where we are underdogs to be considered a great program.

Where many schools get off track is in losing to teams that they are supposed to beat (and often have no reason for losing to except overlooking them).

It’s Vandy. We know it’s Vandy, but with everything on the line, I can’t remember a bigger game since a December 2001 game in Atlanta . We don’t need to go down that rabbit hole of horror, but this seems like this is the biggest and best opportunity we’ve had in a long time . USCjr in 2022 is also in the discussion.

What say you guys and girls?
SC in '22 was just as big IMO.

Biggest since Vols/UGA '24
Only difference is that game for Georgia was a can’t lose but a must win for us. Just like how this is a can’t lose for us. Vandy beat Bama. The longer the game stays close, the more confident Vandy will get.

We MUST start fast. Defensively let’s stop the run and put them in 3rd and long. We need to wreak havoc. Offensively, run the ball, stay on schedule but imo this is Nico’s time to shine. He needs to be calm/efficient and play his best game. If he’s off and our O struggles, this will be a 4 quarter nailbiter.

Yes we’re on an upward trajectory but this is a playoff game. Leave it all out there 60 minutes and we have a chance to compete for a National Championship.

I think the difference is that there is more clarity in the CFP picture than there was before and after UGA. Win and we’re in.
Clarity 🤔 I get what you are saying but they said Bama's is definingly out if they lose and now that committee genius Heather Dinnich best footballer to graduate from Indiana ever says she sees a path for Bama with 3 losses.

Heather Dinich needs to not put out dumbass tweets like she did. Technically there is some crazy path, but you lose all credibility when you post that moments after they get smoked by a mediocre OU team .

It may feel that way. But then, it often feels that way.

It is certainly the biggest game this week. And that's enough for me.
I think it's the biggest one in 23 years for sure. We've been wanting to "get over that hump" and have some type of proof that we have made progress.

We've needed to win a huge game when it's all on the line. When is the last time We've done that?

Edit: and we couldn't ask for a better situation to prove it. F this up and it's gone be way worse around here than SC 22. Bleedat chit.

Shitshow around here at 4pm Saturday if things go sideways.

I can’t even imagine what it would’ve been like after the 01 SEC title game .

I don't remember the year, but I can't shake the memory of Butch taking the team there with the Sugar Bowl on the line, and the total disaster that ensued.

Not so sure on that. Knocking their rival out of the playoffs is probably more motivation for them than they’ve had in a long time

If anyone thinks that this is not the Superbowl of the Century for that other locker room, then they know little to nothing about this rivalry.

Absolutely. I’ve lived in middle TN all my life. Went to school, church and worked with many Vandy fans. Beating TN in anything is the goal. To knock TN from a playoff spot would be the ultimate. It would cap what would have to be considered their greatest football season in modern times.
Many Vols do not understand what this opportunity means to the CommodeDoors. This is like a NC that they can tell their grandkids about. And they have a capable team that can do it for once.

Vandy will bring all the heat they can muster. We need to execute close to flawlessly and appear completely dominant. Make no mistake, Vandy has bad intentions.

Vandy is good this year, and they will go all out to ruin our season; that being said, if we come ready to play and the players know what’s on the line, we should win by at least 10. Pavia hasn’t faced a defense like ours yet.

Vandy is mainly motivated by their hatred of UT. Same as every time they play us in any sport. They are already bowl eligible.
We, on the other hand, are motivated by a trip to the playoffs. Would be our first in history and maybe even at home.
Does hatred top reward, as far as motivation goes? We shall soon see.

Last year's game was chippy. I would expect more of the same.
Chippy I’m ok with but Vandy has been known to be dirty as he** especially against our Vols. I’m hoping they keep it clean and no injuries come about from some BS they are notorious for.

Here is the narrative by this board
Vandy is very good if we don't play well they can beat us, so our fans look at it could go either way
On the other hand a game they've defined as basically 50/50, "it will be a $hit show on here if we lose"
I'm not sure it can be both but there is enough and usually the dissenters cry louder and heard like their the majority.
Meanwhile Vegas has it -12
My take is you go and play with your all not overlooking a usual end of year also ran as can happen. If the team can not get up and beat a slightly above average Vandy. I don't want them in the playoffs, it would just be prolonging the inevitable.

Easily the most important game since 2001. We know the consequences of winning or losing this game, just like the 2001 sec championship.
