I still want to think of SC on the Mizzou and Vandy level, but first Kentucky (yes, with a backup qb) and now a&m? Like the majority on here I thought SC would struggle to become bowl eligible this season and Beamer was in over his head. Are we to the point we now need to view SC on the level of Florida and Kentucky? At some point you are what your record says you are I guess? Still hard to view the cocks as a legit threat for me.
USCe and Kentucky occupy the same tier in the East.
The Wildcats (and Levis) have gotten an unusual and undeserved amount of media love this season, particularly in the pre-season. That's a head-scratcher. I don't know why. Maybe the UK boosters walked around slipping $100 bills into the hands of media writers at ESPN and SI back in June.
For whatever reason, they were given the hype and USCe was left mostly out in the cold. But those two teams are on the same tier.
On our schedule, the tiers break down like this:
-- Bama and UGa are big challenges (yes, Bama still is...we may face them again and they are still Bama)
-- Florida, LSU, and Pitt were peer competitors (Pitt has imploded a bit since then; some teams get worse as the season progresses)
-- Kentucky and USCe are a half-step below peers, but not complete pushovers
-- Mizzou and Vandy are door mats with a couple of sharp teeth you have to be aware of as you step on them
-- then the 3 cupcakes
It was that way before the season started. It's that way today. It'll be that way as we wrap up our 13-0 victory in Atlanta (fingers crossed!).
Don't let the media hype fool you. USCe and Kentucky are both minor challenges.
Go Vols!
