Is that Aaron Beasley next to Bailey???
When humans can brachiate, call me.

Valuing poetry over brachiation in the wild is stupid.

Humanity ONLY has the upper hand in the wilderness when well shod (we have zero natural foot padding) and clothed (we are worthless in the elements au natural) so it is only what you emphasize which means "superior."

Without our society provided shoes and clothes, most of us perish...... and brutally..... in the wild.
Although great apes do not normally brachiate (with the exception of orangutans), human anatomy suggests that brachiation may be an exaptation to bipedalism, and healthy modern humans are still capable of brachiating. Some children's parks include monkey bars which children play on by brachiating.

too easy

And yet here we are...atop the food chain.

And i would assume you're aware that shoes and clothing that insured we get here were envisioned and developed by humans. Humans who at the time had neither society provided essentials nor kittens to dote on...

But do go on.

I think the disconnect between the two sides in here is the "path" for his redemption. I think a number of us feel that, assuming the claims are true, he should not be playing football for Tennessee. Playing for Tennessee is a privilege, and if he did beat that animal to the extent claimed then we think that privilege should be rescinded. No one's saying he should be shunned or excommunicated from society, or that they want his life to be over. I imagine everyone here believes that people are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. But playing sports for Tennessee isn't a requirement for his redemption. Again, it's a privilege. His life won't be ruined if he can't play for the Vols. And if someone's life would be ruined because they can't play football, then maybe don't beat animals.

And of course, as has been said repeatedly, if he didn't do it then good. I would love to find out that it was overstated by the ex but we don't have any proof. Nor do we have any counter-claims. And really, we likely will never hear about it again. So all we have to go on are the claims. Anyway.
Kind of an arrogant, elitist take from a minor portion of the fanbase. He deserves a second chance but not at our shang-ri-la? Itā€™s not a ā€œprivilegeā€ to play football at any other institution? Iā€™m top level Vol fan and maniacally biased...but weā€™re not Oxford. IF he deserves a second chance (IF itā€™s needed...still donā€™t know FACTS), here is fine.

I'm almost, or more, offended by someone who will defend someone who hurt an innocent animal. Personally, I don't want that character near me. I'm almost nearly more offended by someone who would defend that action. Boy needs help. Kick one of my animals sir, see what happens.
He may have been cat kicking mad.

We've had a bobcat in the woods near our house, probably hunting rabbits, and I'm fine with that. If it comes after our dog or chickens, that's a different situation. If folks want to snuggle with a kitten, good for them. If you take it to a place where other people live and eat and let it jump on tables and take people's food, that's a different situation. People need to control their pets.

Perhaps, since we're at the top of the food chain and so "above" animals, we need to learn to control our emotions and not try to harm pets who eat our dinner. It's only dinner, for God's sake..... should you put an animal in the hospital over it?

One thing I wonder is what Mr. Beasley's current attitude is about all of this. On the one hand, he might be (A) digging in his heels with an "I did nothing wrong" attitude. On the other hand, he might be (B) very sorrowful and repentant of cruelty that overcame him, about which he is ashamed and wants forgiveness. To VN (or at least to those commenting on this thread), I ask: would Beasley having attitude A or B affect your stance on whether he should represent the Big Orange on the field in the future? Or does his current attitude about what happened make no difference? Did the act (if he truly did it) cross a line of no return, no matter what he later thinks? Or is a repentant man who did what he is suspected of doing able to find his way back onto the team? Thoughts?

A damned animal is an animal. Saying anything different is silly and simply people rationalizing irrational behavior.

A hunting dogs worth is no more than that of its prey. Killing a dog, cat or freaking ferret is zero difference between killing a horse, cow, pig or chicken. This coming from someone who has owned each of the above.

If you had a cow in your backyard that you fed carrots and interacted with every day, you wouldn't want to kill it anymore than you would the kitten on your lap.

You also wouldnt wsnt anyone abusing it or your pretty little kitten.

Just becasue so many in our society has decuded their damned digs and cats are equal to their children....doesnt make it true. It makes it sad, confused and pathetic.
Well you may think that, fortunately there are laws in place that donā€™t agree with you.

Fun facts.

A housecat shares about 96% of its DNA with a tiger.

A human shares about 98% is its DNA with a bonobo monkey.

If an animal is an animal...... uh......
After reading post from many VN'ers I'd say the 98% might be low.......
That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it.

However, the laws in this country draw a very clear distinction between domesticated pets and farm animals. The killing of a domesticated animal, could come with legal consequences. The killing of farm animals for the purpose of food production and human consumption is not considered the same thing in the eyes of the law.

Also, there is nothing "irrational" about killing a turkey, and eating it for Thanksgiving. It's an act of sustenance, basic to human survival.
Care to take a crack at what's permitted for house cats that have been turned out behind a vet, that are terrorizing chickens that are in a well constructed coop/run and as a result are not laying?

Do we know what truly happened? I know a roommate say he hurt a kitten, but "hurt" in todays world is a very wide spectrum of things.

The allegations are specific : An 18 year old UT student named Kaylee Scarborough, owns the cat. One of her roommates was Aaron Beasley's girlfriend, Zoe Phillips. Scarborough started a GoFundMe to help pay for vet bills. On this page, the incident was described this way: Beasley hit and kicked the cat, and held it up by its tail over a toilet. He also locked the cat in the bathroom after placing it inside the toilet. She also added that the cat had brain damage and will have a hard time walking now. The cat has a bleeding hemorrhage on his kidney caused by internal bleeding, clots in his bladder and is currently in an oxygen tank. Of course, Beasley should have due process. The injuries to the cat are consistent with the abuse that was described by Scarborough, however.

It doesn't change anything of what I've said.

I know you do. Weā€™ve been over it . Youā€™re not changing my mind on the subject no matter how you try to justify it through the relevance of life. Not saying he should go to jail, I just donā€™t want him representing our school on our football team.

blah blah blah get over it geezus you great righteous perfect human being. You donā€™t win football games with choir boys in case you thought that.

He should get a chance at redemption just like Thompson and many others have unless he has a pattern of behavior. What he did is not worse than physically abusing a girlfriend or beating up on a weakling or a myriad of other things that guys have gotten a chance to overcome while staying at UT... and pretty much every other P-5 program.

amen brother these perfect righteous VOL fans worried about taking a guys scholarship over a cat in his food are absolutely ridiculous. Action/ reaction and he was suspended and did his due diligence to date. Let him play football and go pray and donate for the cat if itā€™s that much of a concern @RDU VOL#14

Im kind of tired of this debate as feelings count more than facts for some.

However, i will say those laws arent so fortunate for that gut shot deer, or that raccoon that was shot with a low caliber round so it wojld still be alive when it hit the ground...you know..so it could still fight.

Or for that cow that was happy eating grass and minding its own business one day and the next it takes a mechanical hammer to the forehead.

Reminds me of the Dennis Leary skit from many years ago..

Dennis Leary: My fluffy little dog.. He's so cute- There's the problem. We only want to save the cute animals, don't we? Yeah. Why don't we just have animal auditions. Line 'em up one by one and interview them individually.

Dennis: What are you?

Otter: I'm an otter.

Dennis: And what do you do?

Otter: I swim around on my back and do cute little human things with my hands.

Dennis: You're free to go. And what are you?

Cow: I'm a cow.

Denis: Get in truck, ok pal!

Cow: But I'm an animal.

Dennis: You're a baseball glove! Get on that truck!

Cow: I'm an animal, I have rights!

Dennis: (pointing at leather jacket) Yeah, here's yer cousin, get on the truck, pal!

Obviously ive deleted some of the language... but still funny

I erased some stuff that I wrote because I thought maybe it was too harsh, but after more consideration. I wish I hadnā€™t erased it. Donā€™t come at me with that patronizing garbage. I never said they were choir boys and I never said I was some self righteous human being who has never made mistakes. I made plenty of mistakes on Cumberland Avenue. I just donā€™t believe in hurting a defenseless animal because you happen to be angry . Thatā€™s not normal, itā€™s not childish mistakes, itā€™s something that needs to be monitored closely. If that makes me a self righteous human being then so be it. I say this all with the idea that IF he is guilty of what he is accused. I have qualified almost every statement Iā€™ve made by using the word If. Maybe you might be a little more concerned on your end about how it looks that you really donā€™t seem to give a $hit that a guy potentially gave a kitten traumatic brain injury and internal bleeding. But theyā€™re not choir boys right? Just win baby. Well this is the first time Iā€™ve ever heard of a UT player potentially hurting an animal, so to me thatā€™s a bit different than previous offenses committed by our guys like shop lifting, drunk in public, getting into a bar fight, etcā€¦I know youā€™re always going to side with the players because of your close relationships and the work that you do with them, but this isnā€™t the same and it wonā€™t be treated the same by the court of public opinion either. And ftr I hate the court of public opinion and faux outrage, but this ainā€™t that.

VQ said on a podcast that more info had come to light that suggest the story that came out wasnā€™t the truth and that he would probably be with team
Thanks. Having watch these things unfold for a long time now... I kind of suspected the truth wouldn't exactly line up with the story told by the young woman... but would be somewhere in between.

That said... I suspect he did do something to the cat in anger. He does need some counseling. He likely needs to have some sort of administrative punishment as a condition of returning to the team.
