Is that Aaron Beasley next to Bailey???

I just don’t believe in hurting a defenseless animal because you happen to be angry .
Who does? That's not the question.

That’s not normal, it’s not childish mistakes, it’s something that needs to be monitored closely.
Now that... IS the question. You claimed not to be a holier than thou judge and then you decide that it "isn't normal" as in being a greater "crime" than other things. What is "normal" and who exactly gets to say that hurting a CAT is worse than giving a smaller guy a concussion in a bar fight? Knocking a few teeth out of a girlfriend? Getting a girl pregnant then abandoning her or pressuring her into a "decision"?

You are trying to claim the moral high ground while being completely arbitrary. PEOPLE have intrinsic worth. Animals have life... and that has worth. But most of their value is what WE assign to them. To a post earlier, what is the REAL difference between that cat and the squirrel or possum you ran over with your car? Nothing at all but the value WE give to it as a domestic pet.

Some folks are just way, way, way too removed from the realities of life and death. Some people think everyone should spend two years in the military. I think everyone should spend two years working in a farming operation.

If that makes me a self righteous human being then so be it. I say this all with the idea that IF he is guilty of what he is accused. I have qualified almost every statement I’ve made by using the word If. Maybe you might be a little more concerned on your end about how it looks that you really don’t seem to give a $hit that a guy potentially gave a kitten traumatic brain injury and internal bleeding. But they’re not choir boys right? Just win baby. Well this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a UT player potentially hurting an animal, so to me that’s a bit different than previous offenses committed by our guys like shop lifting, drunk in public, getting into a bar fight, etc…I know you’re always going to side with the players because of your close relationships and the work that you do with them, but this isn’t the same and it won’t be treated the same by the court of public opinion either. And ftr I hate the court of public opinion and faux outrage, but this ain’t that.
So you've arbitrarily decided that one act... or even a particular type and object of violence is worse than others?

I’ve already responded to you previously about this and I’m not getting into an abortion discussion with you on here. I also said that a guy shouldn’t be back if it’s proven he’s laid a hand on a woman. And yes I do think there is a difference between hitting a guy in a bar during a fight and hitting an animal that can’t hit back.

I’m out of this discussion. I’ve had it. I had already quit and then I got called out again, it pissed me off and bc it was a stupid comment directed specifically at me I responded. I’m not going in circles with you or anyone else. I’ve said where I stand on this subject. A lot of people agree with me and some don’t . That’s fine. I gave my opinion and you gave yours. You have your reasons and i have mine .

And before anyone else chimes in, yes of course I want whatever fair process he has the right to to take place.

Right. Because EXTREME violence against some human beings is OK... right?

No. You didn't really respond in any sensible way. You are being arbitrary. You are claiming the "high ground" while being offering nothing in the way of a balanced, objective approach to why. Your position amounts to "I said so".

Then you are at least starting to acknowledge that you do not recognize the intrinsic value of people and the distinction between the value of people and animals. You're still wrong but are coming close to being honest about the heart of your argument.

Not an uncommon response from someone who does not have an objective basis for their moral positions. If they're not allowed to "win"... they quit and either declare victory or victimhood.

Thanks. Having watch these things unfold for a long time now... I kind of suspected the truth wouldn't exactly line up with the story told by the young woman... but would be somewhere in between.

That said... I suspect he did do something to the cat in anger. He does need some counseling. He likely needs to have some sort of administrative punishment as a condition of returning to the team.

When these ugly stories come out, I assume:
1) There's some truth to the story.
2) The person telling the story has a bias and an agenda.
3) The coaches will investigate, and make decisions with more info than the public story provides.
4) Me announcing my judgement would be silly and a waste of time.

Are you an attorney? I've never seen someone who argues so much and just can't let it go.

Really? You hang around here that much and haven't seen people, (ahem, like RDU VOL#14) who won't let things go?

I had quit this conversation for a long time before noticing the non-sense that some just "can't let go".

I erased some stuff that I wrote because I thought maybe it was too harsh, but after more consideration. I wish I hadn’t erased it. Don’t come at me with that patronizing garbage. I never said they were choir boys and I never said I was some self righteous human being who has never made mistakes. I made plenty of mistakes on Cumberland Avenue. no you were both feet in from the jump not knowing facts. Let me guess you’d just say here kitty kitty let’s eat my food and rub it while it plucks over the food you as a college student might hv spent your last on so that you could eat, or you went in the facili waiting on it after work outs and got home to eat and was extremely hungry then this nasty ass cat got in your food and you would be excited and thought it was cute. Hell no so kill the pets right bs because the cat shouldn’t be out to get in others food. I don’t know when animals got more damn rights than humans. I bet you eat meat, hunt, fish, etc but saying the kid shouldn’t play for UT because of this crap mannnnnnnnn get a damn life. These players from UT to every other P5, G5, HBCU, DII, and so on do a gazillion times worse things from beating up their girl, robbery, assaults, and play so damn this cat crap too. PLAY 🏈🏈🏈🏈BALLLLLL

The allegations are specific : An 18 year old UT student named Kaylee Scarborough, owns the cat. One of her roommates was Aaron Beasley's girlfriend, Zoe Phillips. Scarborough started a GoFundMe to help pay for vet bills. On this page, the incident was described this way: Beasley hit and kicked the cat, and held it up by its tail over a toilet. He also locked the cat in the bathroom after placing it inside the toilet. She also added that the cat had brain damage and will have a hard time walking now. The cat has a bleeding hemorrhage on his kidney caused by internal bleeding, clots in his bladder and is currently in an oxygen tank. Of course, Beasley should have due process. The injuries to the cat are consistent with the abuse that was described by Scarborough, however.

A whole lotta words to say none of us knows what happened..

That is not what was said. It is noteworthy that the injuries to the cat are consistent with the abuse described by the owner. The cat was abused. We know what happened. We just don't know who was responsible.

Absolutely, the cat obviously could've faked the "bleeding hemorrhage on his kidney caused by internal bleeding, clots in his bladder" the vet diagnosed AND HOSPITALIZIED the cat for. The cat, which was in an apartment with 3 people, could've made it all up.......

There's VERY VERY VERY small set of people who could've injured this cat. I believe..... 3..... people. Beasley, his girlfriend (who messaged that he did it) and another roommate who heard Beasley's girlfriend screaming "No..... No..... you can't do that....." But yeah, the cat made it all up......

Only one was cited by authorities. Only one was IDed by his girlfriend in a message as having injured the cat.

But sure...... there's nothing obvious here.

Im kind of tired of this debate as feelings count more than facts for some.

However, i will say those laws arent so fortunate for that gut shot deer, or that raccoon that was shot with a low caliber round so it wojld still be alive when it hit the ground...you know..so it could still fight.

Or for that cow that was happy eating grass and minding its own business one day and the next it takes a mechanical hammer to the forehead.

Reminds me of the Dennis Leary skit from many years ago..

Dennis Leary: My fluffy little dog.. He's so cute- There's the problem. We only want to save the cute animals, don't we? Yeah. Why don't we just have animal auditions. Line 'em up one by one and interview them individually.

Dennis: What are you?

Otter: I'm an otter.

Dennis: And what do you do?

Otter: I swim around on my back and do cute little human things with my hands.

Dennis: You're free to go. And what are you?

Cow: I'm a cow.

Denis: Get in truck, ok pal!

Cow: But I'm an animal.

Dennis: You're a baseball glove! Get on that truck!

Cow: I'm an animal, I have rights!

Dennis: (pointing at leather jacket) Yeah, here's yer cousin, get on the truck, pal!

Obviously ive deleted some of the language... but still funny[/QUOTE
There is a difference in wild animals, animals purposely raised for food, and domesticated animals. Being willfully obtuse is your choice, but surely you do understand the difference.

🙄. The police write a report any time someone is accused of a crime. Did they charge Beasley? Even in the face of all those supposed vet bills as evidence?

Beasley was accused by a girl who went online asking for money so quick that the GoFundMe was up before the police even got around to interviewing anyone.

The only source of this is a supposed pet owner who was more concerned with getting money than involving the police. That's hardly a rock solid case or a reason to rush to guilt. The fact that the case has been dropped by police all but assures me the pet owner in this case either grossly exaggerated or outright lied about what happened.

People are so weird about animals these days I try not to bother, but the false equivalency between hitting a cat and torturing a cat is pretty hilarious to me. Those are two wildy different things and the idea that Beasley is a serial animal torturer is basically being propogated out of thin air.

I think if he kicked a cat and the owner pitched a fit about it, missing the entire Spring and calling that time served is more than fair.

“Allegation”. Taking a stab on which side of the aisle you were on with the AJ Johnson ALLEGATION. 😏

Assures you? Look I'm all for being practical but you know very well that many cases are dropped for reasons having nothing to do with lies or exaggeration. The investigators may not be able to find enough proof to make a charge. There may be too much work on their plate to justify pursuing the case. There may be enough outside influence pushing for the case to "go away" that the police oblige. Or there may be people working behind the scenes to "make it right" with the offended parties. Or, hey, maybe it really was all a grift. It is odd that we've seen no updates from the girl with the cat. But we still don't know, and asserting that the case being dropped is proof of anything is just wishful thinking.

I imagine this situation went one of two ways. It was a grift, and the reality of the situation was explained to everyone involved, or it was real, and all parties involved were approached to find a solution that would avoid police and media involvement. Maybe it was positive inducement, or maybe it was negative, who knows. We never will. And I would feel fairly confident betting that this is only one of an immeasurable number of cases that have been "worked out" behind the scenes that we'll also never know about. That's not even particular to football. That's just something that happens around any economically significant endeavor. We'll probably never hear about it again, one way or the other - which is ultimately what the people in charge would want.

So... you really have no idea what happened but are sure that it cannot involve less guilt for Beasley than many here have assumed... without the facts.

I have said at several junctures that I hope it was proven false. It has not been proven false. And you really have no idea what happened either, so what is your point here? We only have what we know to go on. The texts, the medical report, the police report. That doesn't tell us one way or the other. So we're speculating. All of us are speculating. And debating the ethical implications of animal abuse.

You are just as eager to exonerate him from having committed the act as some are to condemn him. That stance is no more or less informed.

In the absence of established fact EITHER WAY, assumption of innocence holds sway. I’ll go with that.

That's a reasonable stance for this situation, especially if nothing further comes to light. I'm not as certain about "innocence" as I am "results inconclusive," but if there's no further details then it's effectively over with.

That's not how it works. It has to be proven TRUE.

You tried to explain away the ONLY relevant thing. They did not charge him. If they had any suspicion that he had done what many here imagine then he would have been charged.

You are just as eager to exonerate him from having committed the act as some are to condemn him. That stance is no more or less informed.
Nope. You can go back to the beginning. I've been consistent. Unless abusing animals is a pattern of behavior then he should get counseling, do some community service, and then be back on the team. He's a human being worth redeeming. The cat... is a cat. He has intrinsic value. Every moment of his life has intrinsic value. The cat's worth is that it is a living thing that we are to steward... and then the subjective value we place on it.

Players have done FAR worse without so much as missing a practice.

Perhaps, since we're at the top of the food chain and so "above" animals, we need to learn to control our emotions and not try to harm pets who eat our dinner. It's only dinner, for God's sake..... should you put an animal in the hospital over it?
You come to my table and lick my steak I will slap snot out of you as a lesson to not do that again, if your cat comes to my table and licks my steak........ teaching it a lessson.
