When do real expectations for this team begin? When is a .500 season no longer acceptable? Lot of teams are young, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have students who graduate, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have mediocre QBs, but find a way to win.

By a coach's 3rd year .500 is no longer acceptable. That's why IMO it's important to at least be .500 by your second year. 3 straight losing seasons is reaching Dooley-level.

Those first 2 marriages were real bad. So the honeymoon will last a while with this one.

Can we get an actual record to react to first?...I'm a traditionalist. :salute:

You forgot to mention replacing both lines, and the lack of experience depth at most positions because of lackluster recruiting and evaluation by Dooley.

You might say 'lots of teams' had this and that as a negative and won, but name a team in the SEC that all of these hit in a short time and won? I bet it is not 'lots of teams'.

It's like people slept thru the last 5 years

Agreed. Part of me can't understand why anyone would even make this thread at this time, but I remember most people have the attitude as the Dead Kennedys said "Give me convenience or give me death!". They are dying for either a SEC Championship right now, or they want the honeymoon over right now.

We need to achieve a .500 season first before we deem it unacceptable.

.500 is never acceptable, but it is tolerable until CBJ has his guys in place. To me, W/L record is not the sole determining factor to how a new coach is adapting as much as seeing improvement on the field. If we lose 6 games by a total of 10 points this year, that's more acceptable (to me) than going 7-5, those 5 losses being blowouts by OK, FL, GA, SC, Bammer. Consistency is king.

And remember, CBJ has never been a head coach at this level before. He's learning too.

There's an enormous difference between being "young" and having half your entire roster going through their very first spring camp. There are NOT lots of teams in that situation.

Whether we win 2 games or 9, we have our coach. "What does it take to keep his job" talk at this point is just trolling for attention. If you think he is a mistake, say so. If not, let him do his job. Nick and Steve would love to see him leave. He will get us there. Surely no one thinks there is a better coach that we can remotely have a shot at. At this point, I wouldn't swap him for anyone in the country.

I would love to believe that we could do what Auburn did last year. However, I'm not quite sure how we compare to last year's Auburn team in terms of schedule and roster. Plus, even Auburn wouldn't have had the season they did without a whole bunch of inexplicable bounces. For example a touchdown pass with 10 seconds left against MSU, stopping Manziel inside the 20 against tA&M, a tipped touchdown against Georgia, and the final miracle against Bama.

Realistically, though, you can't expect miracles all the time, by definition, or they stop being miracles. Our schedule and our roster call for a somewhat more cautious view of this season.

Psychologically, a losing season will put our fan base on suicide watch, but a losing season is a lot more likely than an eight win or better season.

I don't believe CBJ would say there is a honeymoon period, his expectations, regardless of players, is to win championships. Now, the fans need to temper their expectations, UT is young, but I expect great effort, and hope we compete in every game.

Go Vols!
