Is the HONEYMOON over?

Six to 8 wins this year and be competitive in the losses. The worst losses should be games in which UT shows up, plays hard, doesn't let it get completely out of hand, and loses ONLY because of player skill or mistakes. We shouldn't see THIS team being worked over like an FCS team scheduled for homecoming.

The honeymoon is over when progress ON THE FIELD stops. A baseline has been set. It has to get better now.

The honeymoon is not over, but this is the last season finishing 0.5 will be acceptable. I think we have the raw talent to win 8 games this season, but it's not balanced well between positions, and the best of it is young. We can't expect either of our lines to hold up. That doesn't mean we should expect them to be terrible, but the truth is we won't really know what we have until the games start. Assessing how they do against each other is pretty worthless since we don't know how good/bad either really is. I will be pretty disappointed if we manage to lose to Missouri, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky this season, but if the O-line play is bad, we will have more turnovers, which will cost us games we should win. Next year, on the other hand, we should see an 8 or 9 win regular season.

Lot's of those teams don't have the recruiting advantages that come with being in the SEC

Something is only an advantage when your opponent does not have the same thing, whatever it may be, and it gives you a tactical advantage. So this recruiting advantage of which you speak, well I think you forgot that FL, GA, SC, KY, MIZZ, BAMMER AND WHO EVER ELSE WE DRAW FROM THE WEST IN OUR ROTATION ON ANY GIVEN YEAR have that same "advantage" of being in the SEC. There is your season right there, win those and UT is probably playing for the NC, because it is almost a given that we won the easier games on our schedule.

When do real expectations for this team begin? When is a .500 season no longer acceptable? Lot of teams are young, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have students who graduate, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have mediocre QBs, but find a way to win.

Getting really tired of this kind of crap. It's 25 days BEFORE the season. What is this? Are you priming the pump in case you need to start a biatchfest later on in the season? When is being a whiny nega D-bag no longer acceptable. Now, right now.

Heck yeah the honeymoon is over. Jones hasn't recruited well. The players don't seem to "buy in" and the other coaches don't respect him, they will leave first chance they get. More than anything I get the impression Jones isn't all that into Tennessee or our traditions. He doesn't seem "fired up" to be here, it's a stepping stone job for him. Look at how the former players talk about him.

We need new energy, more new coaches, we need to switch to a 3-4 D RIGHT NOW in the middle of camp and by golly we need to get back under center, in the I formation and ram it down the other team's throat.

Jone's has coached one full season, I mean really, isn't that enough time! Look at this veteran team he has coming back, a roster chocked full of players that know how to win!

The SEC East is down right now, even so, the East is stronger than the West. A good head coach could take advantage of it...THIS YEAR!

Pay attention people, he's lost the team and the boosters, rumor is they aren't going to let him use the planes for "Kruitin...

The Admin has proven time and time again that they know how to conduct a search that's going to bring us a proven, national championship winning coach...because at Tennessee that's what we deserve, we deserve 10 win seasons every year.

Butch better hurry up.

My point was fans cry about us being in the SEC and paying this difficult schedule. IT'S NOT LIKE WE ARE WESTERN KENTUCKY PEOPLE! We aren't sending out Hilltopper-type talent to play the impossible to beat Crimson Tide. Our floor for recruiting is higher than most teams ceilings in other conferences. These are the same teams we've been playing for a hundred years. Sweet Lord sack it up.

66, the saddest part of this whole rant is, there are more than a few VN posters who agree with every word you just typed.

When do real expectations for this team begin? When is a .500 season no longer acceptable? Lot of teams are young, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have students who graduate, but find a way to win. Lots of teams have mediocre QBs, but find a way to win.

Absurd post. Chill out. Our program was in ruins.

Yep. 5 or 6 wins this year. People just refuse to get that through their heads.

We have had bottom of the sec level talent, depth, and experience and our record has reflected it. You don't win games just because of the name on your jersey. You don't win games because the fan base "sacks it up."

I'm a Butch Jones fan, love what he's doing off the field, still pretty excited he's our head coach, even though I wasn't overly impressed with how our team looked last year, our poor/slow roster not withstanding. But I'll say this, if we go to Oklahoma and do anything remotely similar to what we did last year at Oregon when we gave up 59 unanswered points....I'll pretty much consider the "honeymoon" over.

Welcome Tucson:
Coached many college teams? Everyone on this site knows .500 is not acceptable, especially in the SEC, but it happens. Check the football history of any SEC team and .500 will pop up.
We'll get back. Please remember what year this is for Butch and staff.
As fans we have to be reasonable, also, and I'm not feeling that right now with your post.
Hang in there. :hi:
