Some of us, I admit, have already been blinded by HOPE. We're already seeing banners in our sleep.

Others are still in a Prove IT To Me mode, and that's okay.

Looking ahead to the 2013-2014 season, how far do you think this line up takes us?
If you don't see JW at the 3 pencil in your choice.

Golden
Hubbs
JW3
Nichols
Stokes

Weird calban, are you in my mind, was about to start something similar...

I don't see us landing J3 but...

Golden...top 75 4*
Hubbs...top 15 5*
McRae...top 50 4*
Nichols...top 20 5*
Stokes...top 15 5*

OH MY!

I think the biggest thing Martin is doing is building experienced depth by default of bringing in better players. The better players Hubbs, Nichols and possibly JW3 will start and play, but the people whose place they take will have experience of playing in tough environements/situations and can only make it better for the young guys!

Your Optimism is contagious.

PS should finish 2014 today.

Yeah, I hope I like a Senior McRae better than a Freshman JW3. Hopefully, he will finally breakout this year.

I am very excited about this up coming year. Pleasantly surprised at what CCM is doing, not only recruiting but getting them coached up.

Why look ahead? Why cant this years team make it to the Final 4?

They definitely CAN, as can ETSU, but it's not probable.

Next years team could be EXPECTED to make that run, and that's exciting.

I don't think anyone's writing off this year, just very excited about the future of the program.

So are we expecting Stokes to come back? If so, where is this optimism coming from? Have we heard anything to indicate that, or just being optimistic? I haven't been paying attention to basketball news.

I expect stokes back, yes. I'd say it's better than 50% chance he return.

Optimism comes from this...this years team should be a NCAA team, top 25. You lose maymon as your only major contributor....you replace him with 2 top 20 players in SG Robert hubbs, and PF Austin Nichols.

Your starting lineup would consist of 3 five stars and 2 four stars. 3 top 20 players, 1 top 50, and 1 top 75. That's talent that very few teams put on the floor.

Anyone else wish Maymon was redshirted his Sophomore year, since he was benched behind pearl jr anyways?

I disagree Calban with one thing. I'd put McRae as the starter over JW3. For three reasons:

1) McRae will a senior, more experienced. JW3 has some (albeit no big deal) immaturity issues. Putting him a starter, especially when you'll have a guy like McRae (and maybe Edwards) who can contribute would be smarter.

2) McRae gives you a lot better outside shooting. JW3 isn't there.

3) JW3 as a freshman is perfect for the sixth man role. Give him 20-25 minutes a game and he will thrive.

He redshirted his first year here, unless it was medical he couldn't have.

I thought he played a half of a year at MU his freshman year, didn't like it, transferred to UT and sat the rest of his freshman year and half of his sophomore year, came in December and got mop up min pearl's last year as a Sophomore? Where am I messing up on my timeline?

I'm pretty sure you're right, utsports has him listed as a redshirt senior though???

He was in the class of 2009. So I don't think he was redshirted.

Yea I think you're right...I think it's just assumed that since he say a year it was redshirt. Usually when people transfer its end of year, and they sit a whole year so they use a redshirt...but since he transferred mid season he didn't use one.

Just curious, so you think Hubbs is the difference of making the team a final 4 team?

I think you actually lose a little by replacing Maymon \ Hall with Nichols.

I think Hubbs/Nichols is an upgrade over Maymon/Hall.

I think the same, but I don't think Nichols himself is an upgrade at all to replace Maymon and Hall.

Hubbs is definitely and upgrade from McBee. So I was just curious if Hubbs (as a freshman) is the difference in being a Final 4 team?

IMO...

Nichols=Maymon as far as production

Hubbs>>>>>>>>>>>Mcbee

Stokes(jr)>>>>>>>stokes(so)

Golden(sr), McRae(sr), edwards(sr), yemi(jr)>>>>>>>>golden(jr), mcrae(jr), edwards(jr), yemi(so)

I feel like we upgrade 3 out of 5 starting spots....golden, McRae and stokes all be experience, another offseason.

I then feel like its pretty even with Nichols and maymon...very different players, but from production I think about even.

that leaves you at SG...the comparison between mcbee and hubbs isn't even worth going into its so vast. One is a potential NBA lottery pick, and the other is, well...mcbee.

I don't look at it that way, for one, they play different positions, and 2...I think by years end yemi is better than hall.

I look at it as...Nichols=maymon and hubbs>>>>>>>>mcbee

Plus your other 3 starters should all be improved and more experienced (Golden, McRae, and Stokes).

So at minimum, should improve in 4 of 5 positions...that being off a team expected to be a sweet 16 contender.

*alot probably depends on this year. If this years team flops and misses the tourney, then I'd say no probably not a final four roster. On the flip side, if this years team goes to a final four, may think championship roster*
