Yea? FSU and aTm didn't know they had them either. That's what happens sometimes. Players surprise you. Anyone think North was going to have a big impact last year? Probably not, until he single handedly beat South Carolina. How do we know Jalen Hurd won't come on and bulldoze everyone? How do we know the Berry twins won't have 3 INT's a game? We don't. So don't tell me that we don't have a Johnny Manziel or a Jameis Winston, because you don't know.

You are talking about pretty boys, we don't have the big uglys to win in this league right now, look at Johnny footballs OL the last 2 years, 3 first round nfl draft picks.

It's a little bit different, but not as much as everyone thinks.

I can't believe the things people believe about this past year's recruiting class. Tennessee is going to win the Super Bowl in two years because of this class.

I have said on numerous occasions that recruiting is important because it makes these games a fair fight and Tennessee hasn't been in a fair fight in a long time. But, a quick look at the recruiting rankings will tell you that five or six schools on Tennessee' s schedule bring in the same kind of recruiting class every year.

The light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. But, the talent is in the freshman class and you don't win with freshman.

Bottom line, Tennessee is still going to be an underdog in a lot of games and will still lose more games than anyone here would like. It's still going to be a fairly mediocre year, imo.

However, better times are coming as these kids grow up and these games become more and more of a fair fight. At that point, Tennessee will win its share.

No....to you it is odd because your football teams are used to having this type of work ethic and dedication. We have not had this type of dedication from the players and coaches since 2001ish. So yeah it is a big deal to us.

Per Butch Jones: “But we have great competition heading into camp,” he said. “Last year at this time, we had zero players who could squat 600 pounds, and we were a veteran group. This year, we have nine.”

That is pathetic....it really is pathetic. So to see this type of fight in every little thing these kids do...to see them even try to push the upper classmen is HUGE for us. Because it means there is a new life pumped into a program that has had it sucked out of it by the Kiffin and Dooley mistake. Practice with your all...train with your all....play and fight with your all IMHO.

I remember Hugh Freeze saying the biggest thing with freshman is that when you get to November and even December, mentally their season is over. Hopefully if that is true we'll have some upperclassmen that'll keep them going

I didn't comment on any of the things you are referring to.

I believe this is one of the reasons that, again, the light is at the end of the tunnel.

However, this season will still be a struggle, imo.

Is this team, preseason really different?

Do we have any W's in May, June or July?

There is a difference this preseason at UT, but it just brings us up to the level of other programs that we fell behind when laziness set in, probably later in the Fulmer era. I don't think the work ethic was absent under Kiffin as bad as it was under Dooley because we still had leaders on the team, but it obviously became a problem under Dooley. I'm just glad those years are behind us and hope Jones has the game day smarts to take advantage of the players we are bringing in. That will help keep better talent coming in on a consistent basis.

We're now up to 11 that can squat over 600 from what I read some where yesterday. It's amazing the difference it makes.

That link showing proof from our own players mouths about just going in and checking off makes me sick. No wonder we are in this shape... That's pathetic.

I honestly think a&m's OL was way over hyped. If they were half as good as they were made out to be Johnny football wouldn't have had to run around as much as he did. Just my opinion tho

I don't know why, as fans, we wouldn't feel like we're going to conquer the world going into August. The point is not to be right by lowering expectations, it's about having a good time by believing we can win every game.

And before anyone tells me that high expectations will make me more upset when we don't win, that isn't the case. Because it's a game, so I'm not going to take it that seriously.

So obviously this team is different, it's the greatest team in the history of college football and will win every game by three or more touchdowns.

For the record, as an update we now have 11 players that can squat over 600. Which, the fact that our touted, so called amazing offensive line couldn't do last year speaks volumes. I don't know exactly how well it will translate onto the field with so many young players, but it is an interesting proposal that maybe our lines have the potential to be better this year since they can actually be competitive strength wise.

That is what I was referring to.

In that regard, what I was alluding to is that several have posted expectations of this group that surpass the legendary feats of Rod Wilks.

This kind of thing happens every year, it's just that this year there is some legitimacy to it.

But, every year the new class of freshman are loaded with studs, while apparently no one else signed any freshman who are any good.

It's a good crop of players. Something Tennessee hasn't had in a while. They are not the 93 Cowboys as no class is.

99 isn't lying, though. I don't understand why people are getting mad.

We all expect around 6 wins. That's a mediocre season.

Had a coach that use to tell us "games aren't won on a Satuday in the fall, they are won on a Wednesday afternoon in July when you don't want to run that extra lap, but you do." It looks like our guys are putting in that extra lap, freshmen are pushing upperclassmen, upperclassmen are setting the bar higher for the freshmen. This offseason is different, 14 EE's didn't show up in Spring to sit around and not work their azzes off
