Is this the beginning of...

Speaking from a personal point of view, I wish there were a way we could pay Tom Jurich like 5 billion dollars to be our AD. He does such a great job here at UofL.

Dave Hart might do okay, but he hasn't blown away the aforementioned Mike Hamilton stench, where Jurich could probably do that almost immediately.

Maybe I'm just wearing sunglasses. :matrix: I miss being good at sports.

I wish! I live in Louisville and Jurich is great. Louisville is good at pretty much everything, honestly one of the better all around colleges in the nation, as far as sports goes. I hate it too because of all my friends remind me constantly, that they are good at everything. My response? Our women's rugby team made the final four, a pretty depressing argument btw. Lol

I know man, tell me about it. I'm reminded every time I see any UofL sporting event or talk to any UofL fan how awesome their athletic department is. I assure you, they don't hesitate to remind me either. It only makes me miss the good days even more. I just didn't know how good I had it back then.

Yeah I get desperate sometimes and mention the past, which depresses me even more. Lol I'm so tired of next year, most annoying sentence in sports. Luckily I live in the highlands, not exactly big on sports in this area.

Glad you see my point.

Was sarcasm. Not everyone can afford to donate to their favorite school's athletic department. And a failure to do so doesn't mean anything about the person as a fan like you implied...

I mean I'm right near the highlands, so I understand what you mean. Still, lots of UofL and UK fans in my life. Wrong time to live here; should have lived here 10-15 years ago. Haha. Watching UofL succeed at such a high level makes me jealous.

So tired of hearing about next year. It's been next year in both main sports for 3 years now. When people started saying that about this year's football team (like after the UF loss) I knew it was hopeless. No reason that squad shouldn't have won 8-9 games. Big, experienced, talented O-line with a 2nd round draft pick at QB and 2 first round (probably) draft picks at WR. That team could have done things. Ugh, I don't want to talk about it.

People will always make excuses. I'm just so done with them. I know Jones only got here a few months ago, and I know that's a valid excuse, but I don't CARE. His recruiting class sucked. People said Dooley's losing record at LaTech was because of a tough schedule. Excuse. Cuonzo Martin doesn't have Maymon this year. Excuse. Pearl left Cuonzo with no talent. Excuse.

The way I see it, you're either winning or you're making excuses as to why you aren't winning. It's easy to see which of those describes us.

^That quickly turned into a vent. That was not my original intention. Haha.

I guess that tells you all you need to know about where we stand in this era of UT athletics.

All good, honestly everything you said is pretty spot on with the way I feel. Watching last years offense wasted because of Sal/Dooley was horrible. To have that type of offense and lose is ridiculous, switching your defense in a make or break year is one of the dumbest things ever. As far as basketball I get tired.of, "Bruce didn't recruit a PG" well neither has Zo. I'm so tired of regressing in both sports, and extremely tired of "give it time" And people act like you have to be all in or hate the staff. Honestly I don't care who is coaching as long as there is progress. People can say injuries or whatever, but the basketball team is not improving period. I support the coaches till I feel it's time to stop, and the last few years have really shortened my tolerance level. On a side note the highlands is a great place to live. Lol

I hadn't even thought of that. The rebuilding was supposed to be over by that point, as all our talented young guys had become upperclassmen. Yet we change the defense in a way that would suggest we were still rebuilding. That's asinine. Why Dooley would make that hire is beyond me; there's no defending a change that big.

Why is it so hard to comprehend? Even the year we were #1 for a week we lacked a true PG. We've had 1 true and effective PG since Bruce got here, and his name was Bobby Maze. (2 if you count CJ, but he wasn't a Pearl recruit.) We went to the Elite Eight with him. Hmmmmm. Coincidence? Probably not. Why can Martin not go get us a PG? Does he not see that that's the issue? When you play a slow paced game and still struggle with turnovers, you know you really really suck. BTO makes a great point. Why are we slow-playing guys like Owootoah? How does that make any sense? It's clear he has game. If we start pushing now, guaranteed we'll be on his list at the end. Look at Vonn Bell. Hargis (Chattanooga) said if we'd recruited him from the start, he'd be a Vol. Thanks Dooley. It's the same concept.

The whole "give it time" thing really only applies to professional sports, in my opinion. 3-4-5 year rebuilding projects are actually acceptable in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. In college, you're either winning or your not. You only keep players for four years max, so if you can't bring in new talent or if you can't coach up the guys you do get, you suck. End of story.

And it sucks because right now we're at a point where it would appear Martin isn't the answer, but firing him isn't an option. So it's like we're on a road to absolutely nowhere. That's the feeling I get. I'm with you; if there's progress, I'm all in. But we're going the wrong way. That shouldn't be happening.

I will say I loved the Butch hire. Wanted him the moment we fired Dooley. Well, after Gruden, of course, BUT ahead of Strong/Fedora/Golden/Fisher. Proud to say he was on my radar from the beginning.

Apologies, I tend to ramble. I do it in real life, too. It's bad. Haha. The highlands are a beautiful area. Louisville honestly is a great town. I've really liked it ever since I came here.

Wow that was a lot to take in. Lol jk Part of me thinks Dooley wanted out but didn't wanna miss on the buyout money. Mainly cause I can't grasp changing to a 3-4, when you have recruited guys to fit a 4-3. Every coach will say it takes 3-4 years to making that system work. Just basically recruiting the right personnel to fit the system. Also I think recruiting took a hit this year cause Dooley simply stopped recruiting. He knew he was gone and was just waiting to get paid.

The PG thing has baffled me for years. I loved Pearl but he really fell in love with athletes over ballers toward the end. That being said I would love to have Maze right now. I heard people complain when he was.at UT, but kid was a lot better then given credit for. Now Zo has taken Landry who honestly looks like a perennial bench warmer. And before him it was Wes, and we know how that played out. Like you referenced we are going after other PGs at a turtles pace. Better ones than Landry IMO Zo seems obsessed with wing players at this point. You need a good PG to win in the sec and the NCAA tourney. Yes next year we could be really good. But the year after that could be down right ugly, when you think of who we will lose. We will essentially lose our starting five except Josh or Hubbs whichever one starts. Hopefully I'm wrong but it could be awhile before we are consistently good in either sport. Man we are writing novels tonight. People are gonna be mad at the football talk though. Lol

Louisville is a great place to live, I thought I'd hate it when I first moved. But I love it here now, well aside from the obnoxious UK fans.

The UK fans, somehow, are worse and more obnoxious than the UofL fans. It's amazing how bad some of them are.

And yes. Your point on Landry is exactly what I mean. I don't know too much about him, but based on what's been said on this board, he absolutely isn't as good as any of those other names that have been thrown out there. Not even close. And we're really going to rely on him as our PG of the future and to fix these turnover woes? I have my doubts. Wasn't there something a while back about Landry getting benched by his high school team? Yikes.
