Is this truck a good buy?

I hear you. Most people will never reach that level of financial independence even if they save and live simply. If you already expect to have to work til you die or get decrepit then you may as well enjoy some phase of your life.

Don't overspend, invest and live within your income and life is good.. Not hard

I was raised in the car business. My family owned every aspect of automobile business from wrecker services to salvage yards to body shops to retail outlets. I think I know a little about cars lol. When you resale a salvage title vehicle you will sell it for proportionately what you paid for it. If you paid 60% of what a comparable used car sells for that has a clean title, you'll typically get the same 60% when you go to sell it.

I have friends like you, I laugh when they go spend $10,000-$12,000 for a car with 100,000 plus miles when I pay $6,000 for a newer model with half the miles on it. Then I laugh harder when they are replacing everything because it's worn out.

The salvage title was put into place by the automakers to discourage people from buying used cars in general and push them toward new cars.

So you keep buying those new cars and wrecking them and I'll keep buying them and paying pennies on the dollars.

You have friends that manage finance companies? This guy is needing to buy a vehicle and finance it (clearly from his comments). Buying a salvaged vehicle and getting it financed is going to be a huge pain in the ass unless he has impeccable credit and the bank will lend him the money because he qualifies unsecured in the first place. Congrats to you that you can purchase all the salvaged vehicles in knoxville straight cash. But he clearly can't, so what advice are you offering him besides beating your chest for buying only salvage. 4-8% interest tells me he probably doesn't have an 800 credit score.

You're completely delusional. The salvaged title was put in place to let consumers know the vehicle they are about to purchase has been wrecked, buyer beware. And you call me a sheep?

I never once encouraged him to buy a car with a salvaged title. I responded to another poster that was sharing his opinion on salvaged title vehicles.

Lol ok. Who do you think pushes these laws? Ever heard of lobbyists? I am sure no one has ever pushed for a law that benefited them under the guise of consumer safety. Your naivete is amazing.

What is everyone's beef with salvaged titles again? My volvo S60 was a salvaged. It had 80,000 miles on it when I got it in 2010 and I've driven it for 5 years now with little to no problems. Got 140,000 no and still runs like a champ.

Salvage title vehicles are the devil's ride. plus they evidently endanger your family and friends. And, you're a cheapskate if you own one.

I think I started the ball rolling when I mentioned that my insurance agent told me that they (Allstate) will not insure vehicles with salvage or rebuilt titles. Since then, it's been a non-stop e-peen wrangling contest.

I bought a salvaged title Celica before I started college way back when. The car had damage to the front end, but only had 10k miles on it.. The independent owner was asking $9k and had pre and post repair photos along with everything he replaced. I purchased the car and proceeded to put another 320k miles on it before I retired it. Hands down best car I have ever owned, however I trusted the repair work and the seller. Great deals can be found plus a little luck helps.
