Is this true? Justine transferring

Coach, just a question or two about Justine and her transfer to Vanderbilt....I understand your promised limitations....

Logic says that Justine transferred for her lack of playing time here during this past season...Is there some validity to that statement?....

She wrote to me "it had nothing to do with basketball " and "i have nothing but respect for kellie...".

I try not to push too hard for information from the players/family/staff I am associated with so I will take this as the answer(s) she want me to have. She's a great kid, GT. Really quiet and seemingly very introverted...I respect her world and wish her happiness and success, no matter where she goes,, as I know you do to. And I did tell her that you are her most consistent and truest fan

At some point, translation of practice to production on the floor has to be considered. Didn’t see a huge problem with the way playing time was distributed last year.

All I can say about this is I still have to see that Kellie can make changes without it being a forced situation...until then I consider her statement to Cora,,,FACT!

I don't know but the last sentence in last post reads to me accusations that Kellie was forced to play certain players, this isn't high school or grade school the coach plays players they think can help the team.If who plays is a popularity contest we got wrong coach and obviously wrong players.

Thanks coach, I am a big fan of this young lady, and wish her well in all of her endeavors in life...Seeing her leave was so very unpleasant for many of us.

Happier times....

not an accusation...during a presser Coach K was asked about a starting lineup change,,,her response

"I don't like to change things. I'm not big on change. I like to settle in and everybody defines their roles. As long as something is working for us, and right now Jillian [Hollingshead] is playing really well off the bench, that's fine. The starting lineup is not the biggest thing for me. Let's have consistency. Let everyone know their roles and understand what's about to happen. That to me is more important than who's out there first."

Kellie stuck with a lineup and substitution pattern that consistently put us in first quarter deficit and took the hard-line on staying with that lineup...until she had no choice but to rework the strategy. She continued, in the hardest part of our season to sub without purpose, baffling nearly everyone on this site.

This hard-line made it impossible for players who came off the bench and outplayed the starters to break into the starting rotation. ANd did not give players like Justine a fair shot. If Justine had played over 20 minutes a game like Darby did, I am certain she would be here now and shooting lights out for us instead of Vandy.. (this is MY opinion ONLY) ..Until I see Kellie reward performance,,,she will stay in my sites. It's nothing personal,,, But I AM a coach of a lot of years and and post here as a coach,,,I would not be a coach of over 40 years if I had such a reluctance to change.

People will jump on me about this post,,,so be it,,,this is how I feel and I do not think I am in a minority. And don't even get me started on not calling time-out.

Lol thought you was A Sunshine Pumper for Kellie Harper

Lol thought you was A Sunshine Pumper for Kellie Harper
Nah, a nonsensical self promoter. Tells us the player told him (yuck) the transfer had nothing to do with basketball and she has nothing but respect for Harper. Followed by several paragraphs about how it's all about basketball and unfair, unwise treatment by Kellie Harper. One of these things is different from the other.

One thing you have to be to maintain credibility here is consistent. Yes I back Kellie 100%, but that does not mean I kiss her feet. Throughout the season I fussed about three things
  1. Not starting our strongest lineup
  2. subbing without purpose
  3. Not calling timeouts to interrupt momentum
Until I see change in these 3 things, I stand my ground. Kellie's rant was immature and should have been addressed the next day.!

You can be 100% behind someone and still want to see them do something different! I have no dillusions about being part of Coach Kellie's staff or as her consult. But on this forum or in front of her face to face, I would say these very same things...I answer to no one.

And I sure don't answer to people I don't respect or like...I don't respect you and you make it very hard to like you!

Well I really don't care either way, wish her well in her future endeavors. But in most eyes she done something people bitch about all the time transferring from one conference school to another in same conference. If people on here think MSU fans didn't talk crap about RJ for transferring here last year they live in a dilusional world.Loyal fans of hers should expect negative remarks for doing that.

I refuse to believe that Justine's transfer is a mystery wrapped in an enigma shrouded in intrigue.

She was an 18-19 year old who after a year at one school/program decided it was not what she wanted and looked for a change of scenery. This stuff happens all the time. Odds are it was a mix of factors--family, social, academic, and athletic that led to her transfer.

If Justine had been a regular in this season's rotation with an expectation that she would be a feature player as a sophomore, I have to believe that would have provided an incentive to stay. In contrast, she was a barely used marginal player whose prospects for next season don't look that great in terms of breaking into the rotation. I would have to think that future prospect also created more of an incentive to transfer.I would not be surprised if Shea Ralph explained to JP in exquisite detail, how she would be used and how she would have a prominent role in Vandy squad.

To say, that such a comparative difference had no bearing on her transfer decision seems naive.

Again, playing time and role differences do not have to be the driving factor or the only factor but just one tipping point more that made transferring to Vandy look more attractive than staying with the LVs and keeping that bench warm.

I wish JP the very best going forward and like GT, I wish she had gotten more of a chance to prove herself as LV. Sometimes players, even talented ones, are not a good fit for a system. That seemed to be Justine's plight.

But the JP ship has sailed, so perhaps it is time to focus on the players who will be taking the court next season as LVs.

Looking for Sara to have a breakout junior campaign.

Your following post was right back to the Justine as Fair Maiden Done Wrong Fanfic. In spite of just telling us she said it wasn't basketball related.

I refuse to believe it's a mystery or naive when she just told us (I know, consider the source) that it wasn't basketball related nor is she upset w KJH. Don't we have to take her word?

I think playing time was more an issue w her parents. Also, the decision may have been educationally related.

A player in her position has all kinds of incentives to put a positive spin on her transfer and not create more tension/conflict with her former coach. So, yeah, I would take such statements with a grain of "salt." In the broader context, if Justine had been a "go to" player this season, her parents would not have not been in her ear; and she might have been more accepting of whatever other issues contributed to her transfer decision. It is hard to be happy as a student-athlete when you are not playing and perhaps don't see a clear path to getting into the rotation. Everyone wants to feel appreciated. We will likely never know for sure but I just don't think you can completely separate her lack of playing time (and its massive contradiction with her credentials) from her desire to find greener pastures.

Should get plenty of court time there at Vandy

If that was the case, she would have opted for Yale, Harvard, Brown,,,which are all close to her home.
You don't just opt for Ivy League Schools. They have to invite you.

I wish Justine the best. She will get much more playing time and many more shots up at Vandy. She'll score some, so inevitably we'll be blown up with posts about how wasted she was here. Whatever. Hope being an SEC cellar dweller doesn't bother her.

Justine said it wasn't about basketball
I guess going to Vandy pretty much verifies that.

I truly do wish her happiness and hope she enjoys her new home
She is a great young lady and can now go "bombs away"
