Just says TN had bb fans it just took Bruce winning to bring them out. This is the carryover affect. Start losing long term like football and attendances will drop.its up to ccm

Kinda ironic that you are calling people 9 year old girls when you are the one doing the name calling. Have a good look in the mirror. There is no need for your type of vitriol here. It is clear you did not read my post. I never meant it to mean that UT would stop being a football school. In fact, I would be very upset if they continued their current form. Turn out you can be a Basketball school and a football school. Look at Michigan, tOSU, UCLA. I chose UK in the title, because I think that is what UT should strive to be like. The atmosphere at Rupp is one of a kind. I would love for TBA to be like that.

This thread has brought out the best in our fan base. I wonder at times if cheering for UT is worth it if I am going to be associated with the yahoos.

Perhaps you're right, but can you name an example of "basketball school" that has never been to a final four, for reference?

No, I can't. I was trying to think of one when I was typing my earlier post. I guess I am hoping more that fan support will be noticed by recruits and continue to build the talent needed for a final four team.

The answer is neither.

No Final 4's in BB - ever - except for women's BB. No Top Ten's or SEC titles in FB in many years with a downward trend on the field and in attendance.

The BB program trend is one to two years ahead of FB with a strong coaching staff. FB may have bottomed out last season - will see after this season. The roster problem has been fixed for sure, but coaching staff is unproven.

That is one thing I like about Hamilton. Yeah he done some bad things, but he did make it an emphasis to show that UT could be a good basketball school.

Not to defend UF but the talk about them being "Johnny come lately" in both sport is kind of stupid. They've had success in both since the 80s and that's going on 30 years.

As far as being a "basketball" school, probably never will happen unless the football team sucks for 2 decades and we go on a Final Four tear. But there's no reason we can't be an all around school.

To not recognize that the last 30 years out of 106 (number of years Florida has played football) does not in some way qualify as a recent phenomenom is miopic, to put it nicely.

Florida did not win its first SEC title in football until 1991 while, Bama, UT, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and even Ole Miss were having success in football and and winning national championships far back as the 1920's. In spite of Florida's considerable recent success in Football they still only rank 5th all time in SEC football champinships. They have one more than Auburn and two more than Ole Miss. They are 14 behind Alabama and 5 behind UT.

In hoops Florida didn't even go to the NCAA tournament for the first time until 1987. They didn't even go to a post season tournament until 1984 (NIT). Even the most avid Florida fan would have to concede their hoops success is a recent phenomenom to put it mildly.

I did not live when the SEC first formed in 1932, but I do take the time to read about it.

Win a national title atleast once, and be ranked in the top 10 about 5 years in a row, and I bet it becomes close. That's all assuming the football team continues it's downward trend.

That last sentence isn't happening.. We r about to be playing real UT football...

I'd bet every penny to my name that this will be a much improved football team this coming season. The coaches haven't had a real chance to show us what they can do yet bc our rosters been so thin/bad.. They're fixing that problem, not quite there yet IMO.. We have too weak of a senior class this year thanks to the last coach..

Its one thing to be informative and another to be a condescending jerk just bc you googled the history of the sec. This post comes off as the latter. If the history of the earth were represented by your index finger human history in its entirety would be a small sliver at the end of the finger nail, meaning our species and its vast collection of amazing accomplishments and disastrous failures could be considered a "recent phenomenon" in the grand scheme of things. And yet I couldn't care less about trilobites.

I did not live when the earth formed over 4 billion years ago, but I did take the time to read about it.

We've always been ranked pretty high in attendance. Even when TBA was entirely too big which made it seem like there wasn't very many in attendance when in reality we had more than most.

This goes all the way back to the Houston, ONeil, Greene, and Peterson days.

We will always be a football school, hands down. However, imo basketball isn't just an afterthought here like it is for some other schools (im pretty sure most Alabama fans are too busy huddling around their 666th nc trophy at Walmart to even know they have a bball team). At Tennessee we care about all our athletics programs and want them to be the best in the nation. However, it is undeniable we have been and will continue to be football first.

Cool story, bro. But, since Bama leads the head-to-head series by 9 games and has won 3 of the last 4, pays their head coach almost $2mil per year, and has as many SEC titles and 2 more SEC Tournament titles than UT.....I ain't buying. Tennessee would trade with either UK or Bama right now, because both are getting it done the way they like it.

You should read one of my other posts where I explain my stance pertains to fan support and the reasons I offered for suggesting bama. But thanks for thinking my story was cool, I may have the confidence to get it published now.

Uh, I wasn't responding to you. You can go back to reading your historic geology if want.

What do trilobites have to do with UT being a b'ball school and Florida's recent success in football and hoops and how does that assist you in intelligently posting in this thread? I think you have drifted into irrelevant land.

Alot of bored people (speaking for myself, I guess). What else are we going to talk about until late August?

I thought it may be boredom, but why question what sport is the big dog on campus? haha

It was a comparative attempt at showing you that your view of floridas success in either sport should be diminished because it has only been sustained for roughly 1/3 of the existence of the sec is slightly on the ridiculous side. I used the history of man kind relative to the history of the earth to exaggerate the timeline for dramatic purposes, and I used trilobites bc it was the first thing that came to mind and made me laugh. Despite all this, my main point is that since I was born Florida has shown very good success in both areas of athletics and has established themselves, in my mind, as a chief rival with our respective programs. I may not like them but I do respect them (to a very measured degree) and I will give the credit they are due.

And just because you weren't responding to me doesn't mean I couldn't read, and disagree with, your post. In the end, even though we dont agree on this we both still love the vols and that's something everyone can agree to.
