Is UT becoming a Basketball School ala UK?

I thought it may be boredom, but why question what sport is the big dog on campus? haha

No doubt. Football is king and it is the sun around which all the other sports revolve around.

From a dollars and cents viewpoint it is best for UT that it is that way. Generally speaking the revenue football brings in for schools like UT far exceeds hoops revenue. And keep in mind we are 5th nationally in attendance in hoops.

IMO, Football centered schools are far better off when counting the dollars generated by sports.

It was a comparative attempt at showing you that your view of floridas success in either sport should be diminished because it has only been sustained for roughly 1/3 of the existence of the sec is slightly on the ridiculous side. I used the history of man kind relative to the history of the earth to exaggerate the timeline for dramatic purposes, and I used trilobites bc it was the first thing that came to mind and made me laugh. Despite all this, my main point is that since I was born Florida has shown very good success in both areas of athletics and has established themselves, in my mind, as a chief rival with our respective programs. I may not like them but I do respect them (to a very measured degree) and I will give the credit they are due.

And just because you weren't responding to me doesn't mean I couldn't read, and disagree with, your post. In the end, even though we dont agree on this we both still love the vols and that's something everyone can agree to.

Well, I guess all I can say is I just don't agree and leave it at that. We agree to disagree, ok?

It would appear that the RELATIVE difference in our ages has something to do with the RELATIVE difference in our points of view on the subject. I have been watching UT football since 1967. When I attended UT from 1979-83 Florida had not even won an SEC champinship yet in football or basketball. Their hoops "success" began after I graduated UT undergrad.

As for your last comment, I can certainly agree with that and in the end we all love the Vols. Perhaps too much and to a fault.

Considering that, I can certainly see your point. I would much rather have Florida be unsuccessful in all their endeavors. Too bad it hasn't been that way in my life time

I think under Martin we will raise a banner like the women sooner or later and to football WE ARE TENNESSEE! We will be back to winning championships soon and I really hope we can do that in both sports!

Not to take anything away from the basketball team but if the football team were to be competing for the SEC then it would
Be obvious what sport this university and its fans support the most.

It is fair to say that over the last decade UT basketball has vaulted itself into a better category, with better national recognition in the media and with recruits.

It is however unfair and silly to bring out the "ala UK" comparision, that takes it to an extreme to which you cannot find a middle ground.
