It feels good to be back among the elite

Yep and that's why I'm concerned about the QB position and Milton. We need to keep the momentum going. Really hope he's the second coming of Hooker but just can't help but think that's fools gold and wishful thinking.

He is not going to be the second coming of Hooker. But I do think he is gonna be good.

I don't know that I'd declare us back in the "elite" again. Most FBS programs have had a 10 win season in the last dozen years or so. We definitely took a step in the right direction though.

Over the past 9 years with the playoff system there have only been 19 different teams who have finished with 10 wins or better and in the top 6 (pre-bowl)(Tennessee is one of the 19).

Not saying that makes Tennessee elite, but not a ton of teams have done what Tennessee has done this year.

In the last dozen years there have been 45 seasons of at least 10 wins in our conference alone, every school but Vanderbilt has one. We've made a tremendous stride this year win or lose the bowl game, I just think we need to string a few of these together to be elite again.

you are so right a 10 win season doesn’t define elite by an stretch, especially when you don’t even play for the conference title. If the bowl game is won, 11 wins puts a different shine on the season, but if the season ends 10-3, it is just a nice season that multiple other teams will have had.

Lose to Clemson and the season finish is likely outside the Top 10, with 3 losses. Not many places would consider that elite. Not many places consider a 2 loss season elite.

You all are missing the point, we are back in the mix, we are in the conversation with the elite teams in the nation, how long has it been since we had a Heisman contender? We have never had a Biletnikoff winner, We were poised to play for the Natty and stumbled but others did as well, it was an elite season, we havent been in the conversation in so long, it just feels good to get some recognition again.

It's a good season and if we string 3-4 double digit win seasons together I think we can start talking about being back among the "elite", however just getting one 10 win season in the last 15 is a little premature to call elite status. In our conference only Vandy can't say they have done that in that time period.

Again, you are missing the point, maybe not a elite program again yet but we are relevant again in a big way, most of what I said was about the post season accolades of the players not even the season on the whole, the player recognition, coach recognition and just the buzz around us, when they talk about the best teams and players of the year we are in the mix and havent been for so long it just feels good to be back in all those conversations.

Where did I say someone was elite?

No one has lost or won the Orange bowl yet.

There are currently 2 teams inside the top 10 with 3 losses.

If you disagree with my previous post……feel free to dispute any of that information.

Yeah, I'll give you "relevant" all day long.

Good deal, so we're in the conversation with all the other relevant teams which btw have been the elite teams this season.
Relevant to me just means you played games of real consequence which we did, to be elite you need a consistent winner over a period of years, we have not been that the last 15 years. We took a step in the right direction this year.

Thrilled with UTs season. Better than expected, but so close to being epic. Things look great for the future.

Now……it takes more than one year to be considered “back among the elite.” Slow the horses and put together several solid/excellent years before the word elite is used. GBO!

Whether we are elite or not is irrelevant to a degree, I said it's good to be back among the elite as in we are in the conversation with the elite, we have players winning awards like elite programs, our coach won coach of the year like elite programs do, we are among them, maybe for one year maybe more we'll see but for now we are.

Remains to be seen. 11-2, Top 4-6, yeah, elite season. 10-3, good, not elite. Ole Miss went 10-2 last year, lost their bowl game and finished 10-3. I wouldn't call that elite, because it's not.
You are solely focused on the wins and losses, elite programs also produce award winning players and coaches, what I said was its good to be back with elite programs in that right, not just wins and losses but individual accolades as well, the whole enchilada, it's been so long since we have been good enough to be in these conversations it's just nice to be talked about with Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State but here we are and it's nice. I will agree with you that if you look at just wins and losses it's not super special but on the whole it is.

Pitt went 10-2 in the regular season last year and had a receiver win the Bilitnikoff, few here would have called them elite. Like I said, if we finish 11-2 and in the Top 6, I think it'd be fair to say that's an elite season. If we finish 10-3, it's a good season and a step in the right direction.

If Milton doesnt play well in the bowl I think Heuple will give Nico a look. I can't imagine him making the same mistake twice. By this point there aren't really any excuses to keep Joe in if it's close, because by now he should know the offense and have his throws down. If not, he has hit his ceiling. If Iamalava is playing evenly, I think he should get the nod as he clearly will have better trajectory no pun intended and will only get better the more he plays. I am not sure how NIL works, but I'm sure his endorsers would be pushing for him to get it. All that said, I hope for many reasons including his own success, that Milton surprises many in the Orange bowl and takes that momentum into next year. My fingers are crossed for him.
