Meaningless award. I could not tell you the last 5 winners if my life depended on it.
He’s a pretty great Orange Bowl player against a top 10 team as well.Once upon a time, there was a QB named Daryle Lamonica who played for the Oakland Raiders. A gal who wrote a column called, Football in a Miniskirt, wrote. "The only distance greater than the distance Daryle Lamonica can throw a football is the distance between his ears." Great QBs are not always great physical specimens, to wit: Joe Montana and Bob Griese. Joe Milton has been named starting QB on two previous occasions and lost the job. I guess he"s a great practice player. When we get into the SEC schedule, we'll measure the distance between his ears.
Milton should have a campaign....dude is a freak! However, Peyton looses to a db...and last year .....the best player in the country did not get an invite. We dont have those here!
I happened to catch a vols highlight of the 22 season on youtube the other day. One of the things that stood out to me was seeing how much more under control Milton was when he was in the game. I firmly believe that with Heupel and Halzle, they have worked with Milton to get him more in control of his throws. I think we are about to see the results of that coaching. Should be fun to watch.Joe has to prove he can overcome the challenges that have plagued his long collegiate career. He’s always had the tools to be great, but has lost the QB1 job twice now under 2 different coaches. I’m a fan through and through and hope for the best, but he has to prove it to the media before he gets that kind of hype.
When some Vol wins it (hopefully Milton), they should make a point in their acceptance speech to accept the award also in the names of Johnny, Peyton, and Hendon who were absolutely robbedYep, when Hornung beat JOHNNY MAJORS out for the "Award" it became a regional political deal. Tradition carried on when "One Game" Woodson beat PEYTON MANNING Out. Screw it.
If he plays well on the road and gets us a win in Florida and Tuscaloosa, then he should be in the discussion. Those two games will make or break his legend. Just like Peyton needed a win against Florida that he never got, Joe will need defining wins in a hostile environment. Is the Joe Milton we seen in the Orange Bowl the one we’re gonna see all season? Or was that his ceiling? That’s what I’m truly afraid of. I love Joe Milton and he WILL be a VFL when he leaves even if he doesn’t win us another game, but I need to see more sample size before I’m ready to say he deserves a Heisman Trophy. I am cheering him on regardless of what happens.
