It Just Takes Time

You got it all figured out, don't you?
Yeah, I’ve watched 52 games with Heupel. That’s enough of a sample size to draw some conclusions.

Enough Arkansas games are going to happen that our only chance is going on the road in the playoff and beating a really good team. Josh Heupel will never beat a really good team away from Neyland, he is incapable.

We suck and play in a conference where their is 2 really good teams every year and a bunch of mediocre to crappy teams. That pretty much sums it up. We are right in the mediocre category. But farther from really good than crappy

We are never in top 10 in recruiting and our coaching is not as good as the top 5 teams in the country, so how can we ever expect to be a top 5 team?

Be happy with a top 12 showing and hope for not being humiliated the next time we are enough to get in the playoffs

I don't think we are getting a nod for a playoff berth in the future unless we play in the SEC championship game.

A scenario which is extremely unlikely in the current/future state of the SEC.

OSU has top notch coordinator’s and position coaches.
We do not.
Garner and Sims produce.
Ekeler and Abeln are ok.
The rest aren’t good.

Sure OSU had more talent but we have enough talent to make it a ballgame.
Less talented teams overcome a lot with good coaching.

We were not prepared, period.
That’s on this staff.

Hopefully, CJH will make the necessary changes to get us to the next level.

Most the great staffs... Mark Richt, Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, etc. Win some kind of title by their 3rd year. So no, it doesn't take time. Now Heupel and staff had recruiting sanctions so that plays a part but I don't think we can get there without major change.
None of those coaches inherited a dumpster fire, makes one hell of a difference

They also didn’t care about moral victories and how people would perceive them or their players. They got 1st round playmakers. Didn’t matter if they had off the field issues or felonies. Will he make my team a championship contender? Time for us to stop being the bigger man. And go all out on some blue chip prospects.

Everyone ignores the elephant in the room. That is when a petulant Fulmer ditched Lane Kiffin, who had the inside playbook on Sabin, for Heupel. With what he's done with Ole Miss, Tennessee would have a national championship by now. 'nuff said!

I agree. Had Tennessee looked competitive and lost, I don't think the frustration would be here like it is.

I agree with the sentiment but man that was brutal to watch and a sobering reminder of what needs to be done in recruiting to compete in games like that. With the rare exception of the 2023 class, UT routinely recruits just outside the top ten and that doesn’t seem to be good enough to get to where we all want the team to be. I think we’re Texas before they started doing whatever it is they did to secure top 5 classes multiple years in a row: A good but not great team with some potential, and a really good coaching staff that needs to do whatever it takes to improve in recruiting to reach that next level.

Here's the thing about talent level - there are maybe 3-4 programs in the country who are able to consistently attract that level of elite talent, and we played one of them last night. I'm realistic enough to realize that we may never be able to recruit on that level, but if we can bring in top 10 classes every year, are smart about portal acquisitions, and can get better at developing players, we will be able to at least be on the same playing field.

I'd be very surprised if Josh looks at the film and can just pass last night off as a lack of execution on our part that was the difference. We're still dealing with scholarship limits (I believe), and we're just now beginning to build the depth to be able to compete at the highest level. Josh is just four years removed from inheriting the worst kind of train wreck program, and has delivered two top 10 seasons and a playoff appearance. Let's give the man a chance to do the things necessary to get to that next level.

As long as we beat the teams we’re more talented than, I’m content. If we do that for long enough, the revenue will continue to increase and the talent will come.

We haven’t had to buy out a coach for some time now which is why we’re doing OK. The biggest spenders on NIL have had the most stability at coach, save for a couple of schools whose boosters pump money from the ground.

Fulmer hired Pruitt. He didn't hire Heupel

LOL, four years from now it will still be we need more time, time doesn’t make a team better.
If I told you 4yrs ago that we would be playing in the playoffs with a first year QB, but we're going to get hammered in the first round, I'm 100% certain that we all would have said sign me up. We were a doormat in the SEC. I don't remember anyone saying we would finish with 9+ wins for the next 3 years back in 2021.

I know lmao. I was just making a point that all I want is talented playmakers that will get us winning every game. Cause in the end that’s the only thing people will remember. Besides Aaron Hernandez… but still no one hates on urban for having the devil on his national title team.

Yep. We need a few more quality studs to compete consistently with a team like Ohio St. when they are playing well
