Thought I'd start a new thread due to the beginning of the shedding of the old guard this year.

Exit: George Steinbrenner, Joe Torre, and Roger Clemens.

Enter: Hank & Hal, Joe Girardi, and 3 young guns into the permanent rotation (Joba, Hughes, and Ian Kennedy).

We've still got most of the usual suspects, but I like the changes made at the top this year.

Also, something needs to be done at some point about the ancient starters at the back end of the rotation. The Moose is out of gas and I really think Pettitte is going to let this steroids stuff get to his head.

Contract Years for:
1. Bobby Abreu
2. Jason Giambi
3. Andy Pettitte, although he will likely retire after this season.
4. Mike Mussina
5. Carl Pavano
6. Kyle Farnsworth
7. Chien Ming Wang
8. Melky Cabrera

Mussina, Pettitte, Pavano, and Farnsworth will likely be cut loose after this season. So, Giambi (maybe), Abreu, Wang and Cabrera; especially the last three, are due for big years.

Lets play ball Yanks.

Jason has got to stay healthy all year, and the rest of the offense needs to catch up with the new guns of the AL.

As far as pitching goes, I dont see them as strong as usual. I think Andy is older, a bit distracted, and not carrying the same stuff as he used to. Im not saying I expect him to be the Andy of old when he first played, or even that monster year he had for my Stros but he is missing something. I have never been a huge Moose fan. I have always viewed him as hit-a-ble. He is good, but not does not dominate games that he should. You can touch that guy up on any given day.

It'll be fun to see this year with some of the names you mentioned gone. I cant wait myself.

Astros and Yankees WS 08....

hey, one can dream right?

The front 4 could possibly be Wang, Joba, Hughes, and Kennedy. Girardi said the only "lock" for the rotation was Wang. I don't see Pettitte or Moose having as big of an impact on the Yankees this year as last.

I think the offense is fine. The Yankees have probably the best offense in the league.

1. Damon/Cabrera
2. Jeter
3. Abreu
4. A-Rod
5. Matsui
6. Giambi/Duncan
7. Cano
8. Posada
9. Duncan/Damon/Giambi/Betimet/Cabrera (Whomever is DHing if not Duncan/Giambi)

They have always had power. They have fallen behind in pitching though.

Wonder if it would be cheaper to just buy the world series trophy now? That way, you wouldnt have to spend a billion dollars to just get sent home every year in the first round. If only Hank could find a way to get the MLB owners to agree on this, it would eventually save the Yankee organization a ton of money in the long run.

Yeah, because the Yankees a) spend a billion dollars every year, b) get sent home every year in the first round, and c) lose so much money every year.

I'm surprised you even know the head honcho's name after all of those Yankee stereotypes that people use who know nothing about NYY except that they outspend everyone.

You are correct on points A) and B).
But, don't you agree that paying Arod a million dollars just to get out of bed is a little much, why not just pay the billion they would on payroll and buy the WS trophy up front? Because we all know they wont get it the other way.

Yankees are the best team that money can buy, well except the whole steroids and getting bounced early thing.

But, I am a Braves fan...And trust me, I know what it feels like to get bounced year after year in the DS...

Yep, their payroll is 1 billion dollars this year. Great point

And I'm sorry, I thought that the Yankees were in the ALCS 3 years ago, the WS 4 years ago, the WS 5 years ago, and won the WS 6 years ago? And that's just in the 2000s.

Sounds like they always go down in the first round to me for sure.

Boston who? Two WS what?

Did somebody mention Cleveland?

I thought I heard someone say Arod got 300 million to choke in the playoffs again....

Must be hearing things...

So that last season Javy Lopez had with the Braves, he wasn't juicing huh? He hit 43 that year after 17 and 11 the years before, and hasn't combined for 43 since in 4 seasons.

I'd try to also explain to you why your comments about steriods are off but to explain to you the dynamics of the Mitchell Report would be a waste of my time because you will only allege that Jeter gets paid 50 mil a year.

Oh yeah, I'm so jealous that Boston won the AL East last year for the first time in 15 years. I'm also jealous of their 27 championships.

Cleveland who? Lost the next round what? Only got through because of some gnats?

I thought I heard the Braves trading away all of their good talent again because their owners don't care enough about baseball and only want to make money.

I'd say Hank is a thousand time better owner than Liberty Media.

Javy was more than likely juicing, but has it been proved? Unlike your bronx juicers, his name wasn't brought up. But, let me guess the Mitchell report was all a big setup to demise the pround Yankee organization. Thats why the senator from Mass was assigned to.

But, you better not try to explain the Mitchell report to me because I obviously know nothing about the game. All I know is that everyone on that Yankee team is a bunch of overpaid junkies.

I'd much rather trust you on the feeling of what it's like to miss the playoffs. Because you know, that hasn't happened to the Yankees in what, 14 years?

When the Braves were in their prime they did it with a 3rd of the Yankees payroll. Will do it this year with a 1/4 of it....Keep em coming boy wonder..

You mean Pettitte and Giambi? Because those are the only ones on the team mentioned in the Mitchell report.

When the Yankees were in their prime, they were doing it with a 3rd of their current payroll. They also beat the Braves twice in the series, once when the Braves had David Justice who was named in the Mitchell report.

I'd like to think you know what you're talking about, but it's obvious you don't.
