It's Gut Check Time in Tennessee

These stats show that turnovers have hurt the team more in the last 4 games than in the previous 19.
However, the biggest discrepancy is the defense in general. They've given up almost 24 more points per game, the last 4 games, than they had the previous 19.
The offense isn't good enough to win games when the D has collapsed to that extent. Have to get back to defense and rebounding. At least that will.keep them in the game.

I know redshirting wasn't an option for depth purposes, especially after losing Marta, but Wynn and Striplin may as well have.

Puckett is about what I expected, a player who started slow but has developed into an important, versatile player off the bench. Miles playing her way into the rotation so early was a pleasant surprise. Wynn and Striplin being complete nonfactors this deep into the season has been one of the bigger disappointments IMO. I really thought they would be contributors off the bench by now...

I'll bet a review of your earlier posts shows this is just a nonsense couple of sentences. I recall you thought them to be complete non-factors from the get go - saying they were mid-major recruits at best. Now you are saying you thought all along they would be contributors as freshmen. I don't believe you for a second.

In fairness to Darth, he was quite high on Striplin when she signed with Tennessee. He was a fan.

Yes, it's time to circle the wagons, have a gut check, come to Jesus, and all the rest, but at some point a chip on the shoulder with a large dose of toughness will suffice. Given the magnitude of this game, we did not show up. This Tennessee-Uconn, there is no not showing up in this game. This has to be infused in every fiber of your program from the managers to the players and coaches. Not this year, but after the season, we might need to really rethink our offensive philosophy as a program. I know we're are big on getting the ball inside to our 5, if we're are going to do that, we need to be more and aggressive and dynamic in our post play. We can't trade 2's against 3's, and we must have more ball security in the back court and in our passing. I'm not piling on, like many of you I'm just frustrated, because these issues have been structural issues across two different coaching staffs. I have faith that they can and will figure it out, I just hope we will began to be more creative about addressing some of these structural issues.

Absolutely. Wynn too. And I gave Kellie a lot of credit for landing both.

I didn't expect Striplin to come in and average a double-double her first season like some fans here, but I did think she and Wynn would be key rotation players by this point...

For me, Striplin yes; Wynn no. I thought that Wynn was more of a project, but I thought Striplin was the most "college ready" of the freshmen. I didn't expect that Puckett would be so far ahead of the rest of her peers.

They didn’t lay down. They had a horrible 3rd quarter. In the Florida game, yes, they laid down. They didn’t quit yesterday.
No but they sure don’t look like a team going very far in either sec or ncaa tournament. Was the early season record just a farce? Was the record just because they played mediocre teams?, is the team worn down? Who knows but it’s something that needs to be determined by the coaches. I’m leaning toward the opinion we only have a couple of good players, the rest are role players or subs. Hope I’m wrong.

Can it be we were better without Burrell than with her? If so, why? Talk amongst yourselves.

Coach, do you see a couple girls transferring out,due to injury or just not playing?!

The tranfer portal is a two'sided pane...coaches use it to build, players use it to move
trouble is player use it to move up or laterally, rarely to move down a level.

I am a harder coach than most,,,given a transfer portal, I would use it as a tool/weapon,,,one where I pull performers and push under-performers.

I am a hard line coach when it comes to "cost v contribution"

Good post and we have a few of those in WCCB one is name Mulkey, another is the guy at Louisville. There are several more and Kellie is not one of those. I think that is one area where she is going to need to get tougher quickly contribution is key and you must have players that can give you that not fill a roster spot.

They did not. They played hard the whole game. They just got beat by a better team.

They shot 20% over the first 3 quarters. They shot 57% in the 4th quarter and played UConn even up but by then it was too late. That doesn't look like a quit to me. In this game turnovers weren't the problem. The points off turnovers differential was only -3.
