It's official, Alabama 09-10 worst team of all BCS NC teams

I actually meant that in the post. People are saying thir defense is like all world and they aren't. The Vols Defense when healthy was a better overall unit.

Better...
Academically ?
Citizens ?
Drivers ?
Looking ?
Public Speakers ?

All possible.

Both UT '98 and Bama '09 had the luxury of not going up against the opponent's starting QB in the national title game.

I disagree with the OP. If Bama is to be criticized for beating a McCoy-less Texas team, then UT shouldn't get a pass for not facing Weinke in Tempe.

At the end of the day LSU's 2-loss national title is still the most bogus of the BCS era, hands down.

They are similar, maybe, but no where near the same. Having to adjust to a true freshman QB DURING the game is not the same as the UT 98 situation. That Gilbert guy had no idea he was going to play 98% of the game. Not the same thing at all.

Not the same thing, but it's similar in that neither team faced the other's true starting QB.

I think this horse is about dead. You can only play who lines up against you.

True, but it is what it is, due to the events that happened in this game, there will always be a "what if?" asterisk next to the Alabama 09-10 BCS NC's. But I will credit them with an actual NC in this one. I think it gives them 5 legitimate NC's. That's good regardless.

Not saying that your taking what I'm saying out of context. I never said they were garbage. I'm just saying they aren't all-world like some people think.

You're saying the best defense in college football isn't the best defense in college football.

Did I get that right?

They gave up under 12 points per game, ranking 2nd nationally, 1st in the conference. They gave up under 245 yards of offense per game, ranking 2nd in the country, 1st in the conference. They gave up 78 runshing yards per game, 2nd in the country, 1st in the conference. Same rankings for that "vulnerable" secondary in pass efficiency defense, which looks to me to be something like "passing rating against."

Actually, that appears to be pretty all-world.

For comparison, UT ranked between 12th (PED) and 65th (Rush) nationally in those same categories, and between 4th and 8th in the conference.

Any way you measure it, Bama's D was much better than Tennessee's.

Easily worst NC team was 1984 BYU -- They beat a 6-6 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl to win it. 2nd worst was maybe Georgia Tech in 1991.

Even though Texas would up with 21 points and cut the lead to 3 late, that game was essentially over once Alabama had 7 points. Much like the UNC/MSU championship game in basketball, Alabama just needed to not lose the game in the second half. The only thing that kept Alabama from being a totally dominant team was a solid QB. McElroy didn't have to win any games, just not lose them. McCoy or no McCoy, Texas wasn't going to win last night unless Alabama's special teams and their OC gave them the game. Alabama dominated both lines of scrimmage when they wanted to. Alabama/Florida was the defacto championship game, but I would LOVE a system that now would match up Alabama and Boise State to settle it for certain.

They didn't face a qb like McCoy though.

This is my point. The Vols move the ball against Bama with far less talent than Texas. We couldn't punch it in due to timely penalties in the redzone. I'm not saying they're not a good defense but they aren't all world like some people are saying. The players they have outside of Darius and McClain are overrated.

I don't think there would be much argument that McCoy is a better QB than Crompton, and Shipley would have been the #1 WR here at the real UT. Aside from those two, I didn't see a lot of talent on display from the Texas offense. I know they've got a lot of young guys on that side of the ball that just need time and reps, but McCoy was far and away their best offensive weapon. Minus McCoy, their offense was worse, and far more one dimensional, than the Vols IMO.
