Bush leaving office more unpopular than Nixon - CNN.com

Seventy-six percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday disapprove of how President Bush is handling his job.
That's an all-time high in CNN polling and in Gallup polling dating back to World War II.
"No other president's disapproval rating has gone higher than 70 percent. Bush has managed to do that three times so far this year," says CNN polling director Keating Holland. "That means that Bush is now more unpopular than Richard Nixon was when he resigned from office during Watergate with a 66 percent disapproval rating."
Before Bush, the record holder for presidential disapproval was Harry Truman, with a 67 percent disapproval rating in January of 1952, his last full year in office.

Nixon had a 66 disapproval rating during Watergate, Bush has a 76 disapproval rating. That is amazing, and the next closest is Truman during the Korean War at 67%. No one is even close to being this unpopular.

Aside from the Watergate scandal, what did you dislike about Nixon?

It is a CNN poll. I will not argue that he is unpopular. I just don't think CNN was doing this poll as far back as some of the other presidents mentioned.

Even if they had it doesn't matter. He is a lame duck and it's all about Obama and how he does now.

The article mentioned Gallup as well...and that Gallup had been performing the poll since the World War II era....at least that's how I read it.

I guess I should have read it. Doesn't matter anyway, it's all about Obama now.

The Gallup Poll has been around since 1935. Therefore, it's official that according to the Gallup Poll, Bush has been polled as the most unpopular President out of 11 presidents...

My bad, I provided incorrect data above. Gallup did not conduct this particular poll for JFK and FDR, since they were assassinated. So, Bush has polled most unpopular out of 9 Presidents.

Great stats...

Martin Van Buren is thanking his lucky stars that he pre-dated Gallup polling.

That's Bush's legacy and what he will be remembered for IMO. The most unpopular President ever.
Remember, the same population that CNN and Gallup are polling just elected a socialist (please read Dreams from my father). I am just doing my best to keep everything in perspective.

GWB's legacy might be the mortgage crisis leading to the economic crisis. However, the mortgage crisis comes as a result of the policies of 1993.

GWB's legacy might be the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Anyone who knows how to think, and not just how to read and follow, understands that the effects of Katrina have been in the works for three decades. The corruption surrounding the Levee Boards in New Orleans was monumental.
