It's OFFICIAL... Tennessee is loaded for 2009/10

Although Cal is bringing in talent, a team full of Scotty Hopsons won't get very far.

Our sophomores should see some considerable improvement, not to mention the benefit of playing deep into the SECT and at least playing a tough game in the NCAAT.

Wow, I am a huge UT fan but some of the comments made in here are not realistic by any means.

Since I haven't seen any play I can only go by ratings, and Scotty was rated pretty high. And I do realize ratings are somewhat meaningless in a lot of cases.

Basketball ratings are right a lot more often than they are wrong. Unlike in football, where they don't have much to base the ratings on except some high school video and maybe a camp or two...in basketball, the kids are playing all year long. And playing against each other in camps and AAU. It is easier to tell who can play and who can't.

So, yes, Scotty was rated pretty high. Also, the fab five was rated pretty high. Four of them were Mickey D's All-Americans. I guess it is fair to say those (fab five) ratings were meaningful.

UK is more likely to resemble the fab five them than a team full of freshman-hopson's. Note that I said "more likely." I am well aware of the many variables, but think it more likely than not that UK will be somewhere between quite good and ridiculously good.

The only problem is it's not good to dump the load of your scoring on a bunch of freshmen. The Fab 5 was the exception though.

Every UK signee, with the possible exception of Jon Hood, is better than Scotty Hopson.

This may be true; however, with the exception of Jon Hood, all of their signees are point guards and posts. With Meeks staying in the draft, I think it will be difficult to implement a dribble drive system not only without an established outside shooter but also with starting two post players who are primarily back to the basket scorers that will clog the driving lanes that the dribble drive relies upon. The talent will certainly be there; but I think it might be a mix of talent that ultimately may not be as successful as the experts predict.

who was the shooter on the Memphis CG squad? Seems to me that the hammers on that team were a monster PG and a rangy, quasi-athletic slasher.

Yeah - pretty sure Memphis hasn't really had a legit 3-point shooter type until maybe Sallie this past year. Just because Wall and Bledsoe are listed at PG on a recruiting service - doesn't mean they can't both be on the floor at the same time and both be effective.

You are right about Memphis' studs that year; however, my point is that if two back to the basket posts are clogging up the driving lanes, there won't be any, and without outside shooting, that also makes it much more difficult to have driving lanes. Calipari has never had a true post while running the dribble drive; Dozier was a Tyler Smith prototype that played mostly away from the basket and Dorsey was simply for defense and rebounding.

calipari to kentucky blah blah blah. UT is definitely loaded, and has more on the way than Kensucky does, bring on the Mildcats

The same Mildcats that embarrassed us twice last year, in one of their worst years in the past 30?

I'm all for UT and I'm all for being positive but this place has several that sprint past the delusional line, between the talk of spanking Kentucky next year AND the talk of UT going down to the Swamp and embarrassing Florida.

There's a fair amount of rational posters on here, too. The delusional crazies just stick out more.

Great job by that blogger. Good to see that spending a year in the Big XII doesn't count as "legitimate competition." I sometimes wonder if the internet is actually a good thing.

I noticed that, also, hat. As soon as I read that I disregarded the rest of the content.
