It's over- announcement coming [by Monday] (WRONG)

This is not a good thing, if it is true.

(1) The team will likely give up on him and lose a game we are not supposed to lose, thus preventing us from being bowl eligible again.

(2) The recruits we do have committed, will look elsewhere. The next four weeks, Dooley will be a dead man walking.

(3) If it is Strong, he won't take over until after Louisville's bowl game.

(4) If it is Gruden, he likely won't take over until after the MNF season is over.

(5) The recruits we have now will jump ship, between now and the time the new coach is on campus.

1. The team would have to lose more than one game to prevent a bowl game... I like our chances either way.

2. Somehow I don't think the recruits of an 0-seemingly forever against ranked teams coach will run away from a good solid coach that can possibly get them to actually WIN a game or two.

3. Yeah because the Bowl game for Louisville is remotely as important as getting into your UT gig... Please tell me you are real high.

4. I am sure that Gruden could either leave MNF or work something out. 85% of Gruden is better than 100% of Dooley, Sal, and any other UT coach.

5. You already incorrectly whined about this. It is in point #2 of your and my posts.

Please get any real facts and post again soon.

link to TOS? Not dismissing, just not seeing it over there ...

Babyvol, who knows his stuff, said it. He wouldn't put it out there if he didnt fully believe it to be true. I'm not going to post a link out of respect to this board, though.

You have no proof of any of that, so I will now invoke shenanigans

This has been the scheduled departure for at least the last week an a half. It's going to happen--Dooley has been done for weeks.

I still believe it will be made official Sunday and Gruden will make a public comment about accepting the position on MNF.

Official Gruden introduction on Tuesday or Wednesday. Hinshaw will be named interim for the rest of the season.

You all are amazing. According to "credible sources" Dooley's been fired on Mondays about 3 times now. Can't wait to see what happens when this one falls through.

Seriously, you're like teenage girls fawning over Gruden. And there's not even any proof he's coming.

There is a just a little more involved than him showing up in the booth on Monday.

It really isn't that involved (I've been in the tv business for awhile). He could easily put together a staff, recruit, and keep his ESPN commitments.

Just clearing up that aspect. I don't think we'll actually get Gruden.

If you've decided to fire your coach, you can't give him a chance to win out and get bowl-eligible against four crappy teams. Make the change before a false narrative about how "the team has really come together and turned it around!" takes over. There's a reason Majors and Fulmer were both fired before the hind end of the schedule.

Bending over backwards to worry about one recruiting class is how UT ended up with Derek Dooley in the first place.

I can't see Gruden making a comment on MNF...unless Hart were to name him coach after firing Dooley Sunday if that happens. I hope it does go this way though.

why can't he do both? the espn job is just one night during the week

However, consider the travel and prep time for MNF. However, if he wanted to do it, and UT admin don't mind, I'm sure they could work it out.

I'm sorry Dooley is having a tough time, I like the guy... but our defense just does not cut it these days. Fans are tired of the losses and have become impatient.

Dooley, Gruden, Strong, whoever is coach... Go Big Orange!!! ><>

I think that Dooley needs to go but will blame Hart if he doesn't pull the trigger soon. On another note, Gruden has not publicly denied the interest or squashed the rumor, so the fact he is quiet leads me to believe he is indeed very interested

Why are people concerned about losing recruits. Geez people, we're ranked currently 10th best class in the SEC. We could afford to lose some of them if Gruden comes in. It will open up recruitment for some kids currently committed elsewhere if a coach of this magnitude comes in.

What is so great about our recruiting class when it ranks behind nine other SEC schools?

And behind Vandy no doubt, lol

Seriously? Gruden won't make it public on MNF if he indeeds coming to TN..
But. If I was Hart and I wanted some hype about it. You:
Make the announcement 1:00 Eastern time.
Gives ESPN and media to discuss.
Rumors will flock that Gruden is #1.
MNF rolls in and then that's when the "gruden declines on TN reaching out" but shows interest about coaching and "claims" he is only focused on MNF right now.
Other coaches pop out. More rumors happen.
Dec.17 is when I predict the final announcement will be.

If its Gruden our recruiting will improve. I don't think people understand, you can take it to the bank. Kids will want to play for a superbowl winning coach who is constantly on ESPN in their living rooms and touted as a football expert.

I can back that. I mean don't get me wrong, I love Coach Dooley. I have a lot of respect for the man, I trust him. I would love to have played for him if the man knew his X's and O's. But he doesn't. But as a high school senior, if Gruden sat down and talked to me and wanted me to grey shirt for a year and earn a scholarship the way Coach Dooley has, I would be thrilled!!!!! And I hope if a new coach comes in he can reach an agreement on that with me the way the current staff has.

Pro-style offenses generally don't work in college football. That is my ONLY concern with Gruden. I think that can be overcome, though. I'd still love the hire.:dance2:

As much a "huge hire" would be great (or at least make people get excited again) I don't think making such an announcement now would be a good idea.

In 48 hrs, I guess we will know for sure.

OP: I hope you are correct or else it might get ugly for you. Just in case, I would think about creating a fall-back account. :)

I really don't think they'd fire Dooley unless they got the guy they were wanting(Gruden more than likely). So if this is true, Gruden will indeed be the new head coach.

Congrats on the Mod "job". Best news on VN since Phil was fired. :hi: Pretty sad, eh? :p
