Figured this guy would be more of a backup for Deandre Saniels and Adonis Thomas. Seems like this could end up being a Jayvaughn Pinkston situation. I'd certainly love to pick up Daniels or Thomas instead. But I don't know how good this guy is, how big he is on us, or how big we are on him.

We have limited scholarships. I'm not sure we want a commit from him until we know what more highly rated players we are recruiting are going to do.

Since he visited this week, I can see the staff putting pressure on him for a commitment because Adonis Thomas is coming this weekend and hes a long shot for us.

Who cares what Cal does? He recruits non-amateurs (Kanter). If we cared what Cal did, we would be out in the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament last year and not 1 possession away from the Final Four.

I was under the impression that UK lost in the Elite Eight to WVU. Maybe I've just been wrong this whole time.

Yes they did, you are right. My point was, why should we care what Cal does? He hasn't won a national title and his team got just as far as we did last year.

He's our primary competition in the SEC

You really think he's a long shot?? What makes you think that? Memphis trolls?

I got your point. Just busting your chops a little bit. No harm intended.

Seriously? Memphis troll? I am just a realistic fan. I hope and pray we get Adonis, but I don't think anyone, including our staff thinks we are his leader at this point.

I'm not calling you a memphis troll. I'm asking you why you think he's a long shot. is it because you've heard memphis trolls say he's a memphis lock? how do you know what our staff thinks?

Our history of pulling players from Memphis makes him a long shot for us. I hope he will break the trend and become a Vol.

He also dominated the SEC and was 2-1 against UT.

TOS seems to suggest we are the leader at this point. Either Rob Lewis or John Bryce said that the staff is very, very confident in our situation with him. Also, there was a guy saying that he is friends with a prominent Memphis booster who says that Thomas is an absolute lock to Tennessee, and may commit this weekend.. So, TIFWIW.

That would be great news for basketball recruiting.:clapping:

I sure hope this is correct. But, I would seriously doubt he would commit this weekend. He would have to deal with a lot of criticism from his Memphis people for a long time. I see him being a spring signee, but thats just my opinion.

I have no idea if it's true or not. But that is what's being said.

His dad was very positive toward the UT program when discussing the possibility of his committing to UT.

As for the Tennessee visit, Sampson tripped with his mother and Anderson.

“It was real good,” Sampson said. “We met with the academic adviser [Kelli Brock]. My mom really liked the lady who was in charge of it. She liked how structured it was.

“The coaching staff was phenomenal. They were really friendly. I could see myself. there. Coach Bruce Pearl is real cool

“The visit was spectacular,” added Anderson. “We toured the facilities, toured their business center because he wants to major in economics. We learned what he’ll be able to do when he gets there academically as well as physically.

“We got an opportunity to look at some film, how they play. JaKarr got a real good feel for what coach [Bruce] Pearl was doing as far as his style of play. It’s uptempo, one in, four out. He talked with Tobias Harris.”

Of Harris, Sampson said, “He’s a real cool dude. He’s real friendly.”

Tennessee really came on strong during the summer by attending many of Sampson’s games.

“Bruce Pearl was at almost all my games,” Sampson said. “That means a lot. I look for that, to see if the head coach is here, not just the assistant coaches.”

“They were at every game,” Anderson added. “Tony Jones and Bruce Pearl, the whole staff recruits him. He looks up at a game and he sees orange and white. That intrigued JaKarr a lot.”

Sampson said no other visits were planned, but he would like to visit Baylor and Kansas.

“Yes,” he said.

As for when he might decide, Sampson said: “I don’t know. I just gotta finish these visits out and then I’ll make my decision.”
