Jalen Hurd at QB?

OK - fair response. I have not hurd that or read that about hurd.

And just curious, does anyone in VN have any substantive proof that Hurd could not be a QB w/the right coaching?? And not just your personal gut feelings, but proof?

Do you or anyone in VN have any substantive proof that Hurd could be a QB w/the right coaching?? And not just your personal gut feelings, but proof?

Actually, anyone could be a QB, right coaching or not. Just ask Joker Philips. But the real questions are:
--Should they be?
--Would doing that be in the team's best interests?

Finally, our 5-7 record notwithstanding, Butch has demonstrated a h3ll of a lot more coaching acumen than you have. So most of us will go with his take on how Jalen will be utilized in the Vols offense. 'Specially since we don't know a darn thing about you or your qualifications. For all we know, you're a Bama-Gator hybrid virus or Vandy bio-engineered bacillus, seeking to derail our rise back to prominence via bio-warfare. That is, injecting the germ of insanity into both the coaches and fanbase. Ain't gonna work, here's why, VN folks are already crazy, in truth, beyond crazy. Just freaking incurably brain fevered nuts. You can see proof of it daily if not hourly. So any outside organism of insanity would be ineffective at most and eaten and dead pooped at least. The odd and totally contradictory thing is this. Collectively, we know better than to fick (that's German) with the concept of Hurd being a RB.

There was a big tight end we had in the '90s that had a cannon - was it Von Reeves? They let him throw once in a game on a quick toss to him and he threw it on a rope 35 yards for a TD. Anyone else remember that?

Yes...both he and Greg Amsler...Fulmer as an OC liked to utilize that play...opponents had to be prepared.

Cool. But throwing once in a game and actually playing QB are two different things. Would be nice to have some plays like this integrated into the playbook, though.

Dear NegaVol - the world if full of hypotheticals, and that is all this was. And FYI, am a 79 grad of Ktown, not a bamaplant.

This is hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You called me a negavol!!
It's so humorous and yet so absurd, I won't even bother to defend myself.

I didn't call you a "bamaplant" I called you a Bama-Gator hybrid microbe in so many words. Get it right. Despite your claimed qualifications, we still don't know if you're qualified to make coaching decisions for our Vols team. Namely making Hurd a QB. And that pardner, not your being butt hurt over a bit of needling is what this is really all about.

Negavol? Whooooooo! That's really funny!!! Now if you'd have called me blindly loyal to our players to the point of being a programmed robot in my defense of them, that might have gotten my dander up. Despite it being an accurate assessment. But a negavol? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA
Thanks for a really fun part of the day. I really enjoyed that. :)

Talent evaluators across the FCS spectrum had Hurd projected and recruited as a running back ....only on VN do we get some whack jobs leaving their day jobs at the fry station and want him changed out to LB, QB, yada yada yada ... gotta be trolls ... I refuse to believe anybody in the actual state of Tennessee or their fans are really that stupid.

I'd love to agree with you. However, VN has taught me the truth of ole Albert's claim:

OK, seriously, I came in late on this but are we talking about Hurd "playing QB" or simply discussing the possibility of him maybe taking a few snaps in certain situations, a la AJ and "Beast" package, "Wildcat", etc?

This is fun stuff, gotta admit. The entire intention of this thread was that nobody on VN can agree to who our QB will be come later August, including myself. This is scary. However, most on VN seem inclined to think that Hurd is a stud and just might be the most all around talented person in our backfield (or at least many of us hope this is true!). Given the size and athleticism of Hurd and not knowing anything about him due to living on the southeastern coast of North Carolina, I simply asked the question if anyone in VN has empirical proof that Jalen is not capable of playing QB. I got a few excellent and well thought out replies on here earlier stating from their knowledge that Hurd couldn't throw a turnip into a swimming pool. Heck, we don't need anymore QBs like that, so this thread was dead a long time ago. That was until someone resurrected it to my surprise. I have been a loyal Vols fan over 4 decades and am amazed when other fellow Vol fans find it so important to bash fellow VFLs. Hypothetical questions make the world go round and eventually solve almost every problem the world has faced. Go Vols!! <and now I await the onslaught of clever replies from a select few questioning my sanity, family beliefs, religious preferences and loyalty to The Hill>

Iz bout sum insain posers tinking Jalin been herd inna been a QB. Not jess tacking a phew snip azz a Kintookee kitty.

Thought I'd try communicating the very insanity of the idea. But to tell the truth, Ten Titans illustrated far better than I why argument on the issue as stated by friend Volador is a non-issue. No offense, Volador, I actually think you're pretty cool a lot for the time. And nuts like the rest of us, some of the time.

AWWWW, so sweet. Volador, you make us blush.

No...some posters got offtrack and went all realistic...the question posed by the OP involved whether we could PROVE...beyond a shadow of a doubt..that Jalen Hurd COULDN'T play a position, that usually requires years of camps and personal coaching to get a scholarship offer....I think we're backed into a corner:unsure:

So, kinda like "Why didn't we start Leonard Little at RB and Jamaal Lewis at LB and Chuck Webb at WR?"?

Other than off-season mental masturbation it strikes me as folly.

Yes, lets put the kid who has never played the position, says he cant throw the ball and has already had 2 shoulder surgeries at QB.

I'm kinda tired of seeing this thread on the from page, but I had a dream Hurd was a really good QB and I had to eat crow on this thread...

The stupidity is starting to haunt me in my sleep.

Can we ask the moderator to kill this thread? Everyone knows by now that Hurd has zero talent as a QB and only wants to run the pigskin. Or does he....??

Post coming in July
Jalen Hurd as God?

Its a shame! I feel in time (a few weeks) Jalen Hurd will make Rod Wilks look like just a guy who had a few tackles at UT and didnt nothing else for our team.
