Jalen Hurd Retires

Butch was incompetent but Hurd also is the one who decided to quit on his brothers during the middle of the season.

That’s not giving his all for Tennessee.

Bash me all you want but it’s the truth.
You’re not wrong but Butch really Fed the situation up as well. If he wasn’t coach Hurd likely stays, sets a lot of records and gets drafted as a Vol. Not excusing Hurd it was idiotic to leave like he did but the kid reached a mental breaking point.

Three years in the NFL earning about 2.7 million isn’t to shabby. Butch Jones was, and remains, an impudent jackass! He most assuredly had a strong hand in screwing up more than one of his players careers.

When an oversized RB comes to you and says he wants to be a TE because Alvin Kamara is probably better and you say no…it could be the coach that is partially to blame.

Can't say that I disagree with you there.

Honestly believe though that this is one of those Jalens story, Botchs story, and the truth probably lies in between.

Botch was a carnie barker of a football coach, but you also don't quit mid game like that-ever. Finish the season and THEN transfer and nobody would have thought any lesser of him really.

Since this has been recent, look at the way T Jackson transferred. All compliments of UT-basically handling business like a grown man and people want the best of luck for him at Indiana.

In the end, there is simply a right way and wrong way to do things. Jalen chose the wrong way.

I wish him the best. He certainly had a rough go of it with Butch Jones botching his career.

Patriots Wide Receiver Retires After Training Camp Injury

My wife and I adopted him as our favorite player when He came here. I thought it showed class when he wanted to come to Knoxville at a really bad time and help put Tennessee football back on the map. He did just that and I wish him the best in whatever endeavors he takes on in life. God Bless young man.

There is nothing wrong with $2.7 million, but Jalen Hurd didn't have an NFL career to speak of. His entire time was spent either on practice squads or injured reserve. Hurd never played in an NFL regular season game; just pre-season.

Alvin Kamara has a much better argument for having his college career mishandled by Butch Jones, than Jalen Hurd does. Kamara doesn't need an excuse, however. Those of you blaming Butch Jones for Jalen's NFL career failing to materialize are misguided ... and I loathe Butch Jones as much as anyone.

I agree with this. Botch may have played him at the wrong position at UT, but Hurd transferred and was ultimately drafted in the third round at the position he chose. He just couldn’t stay healthy in the NFL - that part isn’t Botch’s fault.

When you score a touchdown and not a single teammate comes to congratulate you or acknowledges it, you must have done something to Piss everyone off. Can’t remember what game it was but I have never seen anything like it in college or professional where your whole team ignores you. That tells me something about him.

I found this article from 2019 that offers some insight to the Hurd story. It appears to me, Jones created a toxic environment for his teams. Totally opposite of what Josh Heupel has created.

Update
Apologies to Tman, who already posted this article. (I'm all over the place)

What game was that?

I put most of the blame on Butch. He lied to save his own skin and it wasnt just the Hurd situation. It is really sad how close Hurd came to being a legend and now he is considered a quitter by most

Kamara was without question the better of the 2 backs. Apparently Butch promised Hurd the starting RB spot and didn't know what to do when Kamara turned out to be the better RB. Hurd gave him an out when he requested to be a TE, as the NFL scouts had told him would be his best NFL position, but Butch was too stubborn to see it.

Coaching malpractice for both players along with Hurds primidone attitude was the problem.

Kamara who we now know was at least as equally talented if not more so and was forced to play behind Hurts had good reasons to quit and never did. However Hurts quit on us. How’ out Hurts take his search for glory back to Baylor, the school he didn’t quit on is my opinion. I can’t see the need for UT fans to expend the slightest of breath or energy on him at all.
