Learned this long ago, never trust a quitter. Seriously you will always question what they will do and why they are doing it. Snake in the grass.

Lot of revisionist history here. Hurd is a very good back who ran behind some absolutely CRAP offensive lines at UT, in a scheme that certainly didn't suit him (or would suit any power back). Our line his freshman year was terrible, with a capital T, and only marginally better the next year. About 80 percent of his yards came after he got belted at the line of scrimmage. I still think Hurd will be in the NFL.

Yep...how many times did we see comparisons to Eddie George?

I understand fans being upset but no need to act like "he was good anyway." Something clearly was going on behind the scenes that we'll never know.

Going from an offense that doesn't fit his style to an offense that doesn't fit his style.

He is a genius!

The better move for him would be to go to the draft. I'm confident that whoever drafts him will change their offense to fit his style, whatever that may be.

So he needs a dominant oline and completely different offensive system to excel?? Funny how the other backs had less issues running the ball otherwise he may need to invent a time machine and go back to 1980 where teams ran the ball 3 times then punted. I don't think I can recall another player needing so much to be elite or he just gives up

This person is no longer enrolled at UT. Why is he in this thread? Mods can you move this to the Around the NCAA forum? News about this person no longer belongs with the kids who actually play for the Vols.

Kelly and Kamara ran behind the same OL.

While I certainly agree with much of what you said, it doesn't tell the whole story on Hurd. For example, his best yards per carry average came in his first year, behind that awful line, and dropped off from there....4.7 to 4.6 to 3.7. All while Kamara and Kelly were doing a much better job of running behind those crap OLs. That could speak to them being better "fits" in the offense.....but it could also speak to them being better, more talented running backs in general.

Also, if you go back and tally it up (I did once awhile back), it's amazing how many negative yardage runs Hurd, a 240 lb back, had, bad OL or not. He simply did not/does not have good enough burst and balance to be a premier running back imo. Recall Jon Gruden talking about Hurd during the Outback Bowl saying he needed to be better "running through the trash"....I think that's what he was referencing.

Finally, Hurd had no breakaway/home run ability at Tennessee. Nearly 600 carries and not one 50 yard run. Additionally, his highest single game rushing total was only 151 yards in 33 career games....and that only coincided with his career high in carries for a single game (34). And of his 33 career games, in only 9 did he average more than 5 yards per carry.

No, the truth about Jalen is that he was a good back, mainly a short yardage back who occasionally turned 2 yard runs into 5 yard runs, who often only got the yardage that was there and no more, who way too often was dropped for negative yardage and who simply could not turn a 6 yard run into a 60 yard run like the great ones do.

I'm not much into prognosticating what a player is gonna do in the future, but I think it's difficult to see how Jalen's gonna do very well vs elite NFL competition based on what he did at the collegiate level.

He's going to be a really good WR/TE wherever he chooses to go. Ran behind straight garbage Oline for 3 years. Good luck to the kid. He took some monster hits at ut.

One again, not buying the OL excuse. We have 2 RBs who excelled behind the very same line. Hurd doesnt have vision. He doesnt have cut back ability. He is a straight line runner who isnt even that fast.

I just read every post up to this one. I saw 1. One that could be described as "scorned women" and that would be a stretch.

Full?

Just counting the name calling there were at least 4 comments prior to yours...then there are also comments about how he'll ruin tOSU somehow. ****ing grown ass men acting like women scorned over a college kid's actions

In a scheme that fit them.

So he wants to go to OSU that runs the same offense??? That's pretty dumb. Either Hurd is not very smart or he really is trash. Either way the boy won't succeed and I'll laugh while he fails. I maybe a meliennal, but thank god that quitting mentality didn't get put in me.
