I'm no Basilodamus, but wouldn't letting JJ go indicate that there's a post recruit about to be added? Perhaps they're doing well.

Tenn has done great recruiting lately but it’s fair to say recruiting has been poor with bigs recently
I guess that depends on what you consider recent, and what rate you consider poor? Since his first class....

Ray Kasongo-bust
Kyle Alexander-NBA contract
John Fulkerson-All-SEC
Grant williams-2x SECPOY, NBA
Yves Pons-SEC DPOY
Zach Kent-bust
Derrick Walker-bust
DJ Burns-bust

I don’t think it’s fair to declare anything on Plavsic, Pember or ORN. So yea his last 3 are missed, but hit 4/8 overall. Again guess it depends on what you consider an acceptable rate. I think it’s also worth mentioning that Walker & Burns could turn out to be players, and Barnes would’ve liked for those guys to worked out here, their talent isn’t why they left.

I’d agree with all those.
I’d consider pons a convert instead of a big

But yea recent for me
Is kent, walker, burns, uros,
Olivier and pember. Those were all
Bust or weren’t ready to help early in the career.

Olivier will be fine if he isn’t passed over with JJs replacement

This guy is no Grant Williams. They need a big that can guard the other teams five to give Fulk legitimate rest.
regardless, this isn’t where the post roster needs to be at this point in Barnes’ career. He doesn’t seem to be doing well on recruiting top post prospects.
I don’t think anyone expects for him to be the difference between a sweet sixteen or final four run. He’d be a good role model for ORN. Would be a great addition.

And if he isn’t potentially a player that is good enough to do that he doesn’t need to be a vol

That would leads us with close to nothing heading into 2021-2022

If He’s good enough to play for Louisville next year he’s good enough for Tennessee. I’d also expect a junior ORN to be MUCH better than freshman ORN.

So yes if he’s good he could easily win us one or two more games. Even in the tourney

ORN must be in the rotation to get better

Vescovi/Bailey
Springer/James
Johnson/Gaines
Walker/Pember
Plavsic/ORN

Not sure I’m calling that “close to nothing”, especially with 3 scholarships to give.

Walker-pember-uros and an ORN that didn’t play much at all as a sophomore

Is very scary unless you are fine with another 17-18 win type season

At least 1 of those guys is getting solid minutes this year...you’re also completely dismissing 3 open spots.

This year was also a result of losing 62% of minutes played, 68% of points scored and 65% of rebounds. If you lose Fulky and Pons that’s roughly 30% of minutes played, 37% of points scored and 33% of rebounds...not nearly as bad of shape as what produced a 17 win season.

Yes only 3 of those 4 will play if we take a grad transfer

And if we get hit with the nba draft with a coupe of jjj, springer or Johnson then yes 2022 could be another year where we lose over 60% of rebounding, pts and minutes. Very easily lose that much. If a grad transfer comes

And if all 3 return, then boom we are set up damn good for another strong year....hell move JJJ down to the 4 and play some small ball if needed.

You just can’t help but be contentious can you?
My point is they are looking at him in a much different role. Like someone said, a Schofield type in a swing role. I’d say Pons amd JJJ already fill that role. UT desperately needs 6’8” big bodies. Fulk isn’t a five and the only other five body they have is Uros and we’ve seen what a project he is.

I don’t see his rebound numbers translating to the SEC and I think that’s a fair criticism.
Wow...I’ve seen it all. Pot, meet kettle.
