Jalin Hyatt - WTH?

I think you might have a little too much orange tint in your shades, or haven’t been following this for too long - these guys get paid big money to evaluate every possible everything about these guys - it’s literally their jobs- and they have very sophisticated scouting and analytics departments helping them - you see how many people are in each team’s war room? Lotta people (300 plus professional deemed rockstar NFL analysts) see four wrs ahead of Hyatt- it’s no slight on him- but it’s very understandable.
Yet amazingly they still whiff on so many draft picks. It’s clearly an unscientific process

Quinten Johnston was picked 21st. So I have seen people say oh well Hyatt didn’t do squat against UGA. Oh when he faced real DBs he couldn’t do much. Well how did #2 overall WR drafted do against UGA?

Hyatt bs UGA- 6 for 63 yards

Johnston vs UGA- 1 for 3 yards

Johnston graded out higher as an NFL prospect because hes bigger than Hyatt by 20 pounds. Thats really about it. I only seen 1 mock draft that ever had Hyatt going first round before the WRs taken before him. Many mock drafts even had Tillman going before Hyatt....which again is accurate as far as Tillman goes because he has better overall attributes for having the most liklihood of contributing on an NFL team. Again, Hyatt struggles badly with man to man press coverage, and thats probably mostly due to his size. at 185lbs hes really thin for his height, and as another poster pointed out he had a small issue of dropping the shorter passes over the middle 10-15 yards down field.

All of players will get dinged for being "system" guys until they have some success in the NFL.

But i'll also say this....show me one Ohio State QB who has had success in the league in recent memory.

I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing Hooker, Hyatt, Tillman and Byron Young come off the board today. Happy Darnell was able to give Elarbee another Top 10 Draft Pick on his resume.

Speaking of....wonder which round Wanya Morris and Eric Gray and Henry T will go in? Doubt any of them go today. Should have kept their noses clean and stayed here.

How about a dose of reality as it relates to Hyatt. A very, very high percentage of his success came from Heup's scheme. Not to mention the fact that he was matched up against the other team's 3rd DB. When you take a hard, unbiased look at the young man, he was very fortunate.

Not surprised honestly. More surprised that Levis didn’t go in round one than Hyatt not going. Draft has gotten to be more about measurables than what players do on the field. I think Hyatt probably ends up being better.

Hmmm those same NFL teams took guys like aryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell, Brian Bosworth, arson Wentz, Josh Rosen, Tim Couch, Baker Mayfield. Johnny Manziel and countless others high and praised those guys. Stop acting like the NFL teams are infallible.

If he were playing for another team I wouldn’t be saying the same thing? Love that conjecture there bud. Hate to break it to you but you are just wrong. Remember when Addison won the Biletnikoff? I thought he was the best WR ok the nation.

everyone you named was QBs other than Bosworth lol. Not saying they dont miss on other positions but QB is not the best position to pick to point out teams missing on. Many times teams have to take a chance on QBs even if they dont necessarily think theyre ready. 99% of the time there are more teams needing a QB than there are QBs available that will be good enough to be an NFL starter.

I can see the success of Heupel's offense hurting Hyatt some with the talk of being a system player. A few hundred yards and some tds weren't due to Hyatt's route running, catching ability, or taking the ball from defenders. They were from busted coverage due to confusion on the defense and the nearest defender was 5-10 yards away when he made the catch.

It's not Hyatt's fault that that's how things shook out, but being a smaller wide receiver without special speed, I can see why he didn't get taken in the 1st.

So you are not surprised that 4 WRs were chosen over the Biletnikoff winner???

1. The Biletnikoff isn't awarded based on highest projected draft stock.
2. One of those WRs drafted ahead of Hyatt also won a Biletnikoff
3. 4 WRs for now. It might end up more. I hope not, but it might.
4. College performance and traits do not necessarily align perfectly w/NFL desired traits

And yet it seems those experts are wrong more times than they're right.

And some people get paid a lot of money to go on national television and tell us that Will Levis is a top 5 draft pick…

I believe some of us questioned his decision to go. He would have helped himself if he had put two good years together. His choice though.

DeVonta Smith weighed under 170lbs and he was top 10.

Wait and see where Hooker goes...too many NFL pundits think it's "the system" and not the talent at Tennessee right now

FWIW - I hope it puts a giant chip on their shoulders and they both have HOF level careers
With that in mind, it is important that UT's skill player draftees perform well... and better than their draft position.

The real head scratcher for me in this whole thing has been Richardson.. I just don't know how you could take a guy regardless of raw talent whose decision making was as bad as his.

He’s the best receiver in UT history in my opinion. I still can’t wrap my mind around what he did to the Bama scum
How old are you? The system did help him and that's no knock on him. But in pure talent, he's not even the best UT receiver of the last 10 years. Again, no knock. UT has had (and squandered) some really talented guys. Malone, Callaway, and Palmer all fall in that group.

I was laughing hard at Mel Kiper freaking out over every team passing up Levis. He must've said Levis name 120 times last night.
It's one of the stranger player obsessions I can remember. Levis may turn into a decent pro, but the hype around him being a top 5 pick was inexplicable. Top 5 QBs don't go 7-6 and throw for 100 yards against Vanderbily their Senior year.

DeVonta Smith weighed under 170lbs and he was top 10.
of course there have been smaller guys taken....I simply compared why Johnstin specifically was taken over Hyatt. They were used similar ways and had similar skill sets in very similar offenses. DeVonta smith had way better footwork and used it to make up for his lack of size. When looking at Johnston and Hyatt though, they both had the same problem of not being able to free themselves from man to man press, its easier to work with a guy who has a bigger frame though to fix that.
