keep believing that

Okay, I'll keep enjoying movies for what they are instead hate them by trying to find directors' political agendas. I really doubt Cameron worked about 10 yrs on this just to make an anti-military movie. My dad's a military guy who saw the movie and he wasn't whining about it.

But come on...the script was very weak. The dialog was very limited and the main guy often had problems putting more than 2 sentences together. The military leader was just awful. Never knew enough about the characters to really care for any of them. Several scenes were longer than needed which happens a lot during high budget special effect blockbusters.

Amazing to see, but I was bored by the end, didn't really care, and was glad it was over. Not saying I regret seeing it.

Yes, the dialogue wasn't the greatest but it wasn't nearly bad enough to ruin the movie. The movie was a little long but no one I saw it with or talked to said they were bored. Again, I'm not really sure what you wanted from the story since it was about what everyone I know expected.

Excellent

No lack of enjoyment due to a perceived anti-military script.:ermm:

Dialog should not be called weak when it fits the characters.

Amazing special effects. Judging by the crowds and the lines. Cameron's kept his mystique as a great story teller and film maker.

I saw this in 3D today. It was amazing. The level of detail was incredible. The story was not weak. It was not original, but I enjoyed it. Some scenes were a little long. This is a must see in 3D.

It was a good movie, would not go to great with it. As my friend said, it was Dances With Wolves in outer space.

The comparisons to Dances With Wolves and Pocahontas are pretty close, but it's a good retelling in a new setting. The CGI was great, I don't know if it lived up to the hype but it certainly looked great. Overall, I very much enjoyed the movie, one of the better movies I've seen in theaters this year.

I'd also like to say, I thought Zoe Saldana's performance was fantastic. She won't receive any awards due to the CGI but she did a great job.

Oh and I saw this in 3D at the Pinnacle, did anyone else think the glasses made the movie too dark. I raised the glasses a few times throughout the movie and it looked much brighter/colorful. I think I'd like to see it non-3D.

As I said before, I can't imagine sitting through this movie in 2-D. When you get down to it, the characters are so flat and predictable. Army boss is tough man who just wants to destroy everything. Boss man just wants to get his job done and make money. Weaver, the tree hugger, obviously thinks the gov't is bad. Come on, we've seen it so many times before.

I'm typically not a fan of watching blue lizard people prance around a forest touching flowers, but the 3D made it mildly interesting. Obviously I'm exaggerating a bit, but if you step back and look at the 45 minutes of story and plot that are actually contained in this movie, I think folks would realize it's weak.

Just discussing a bit. Fact that I'm even thinking about the movie days later is some sort of testament. However, I think it's may be just my amazement at how some graphics and special effects seem to cloud people's opinion. If this was some no-name director's debut film, I think it would be seen as a 3D masterpiece and story telling boredom.

Also, I think it's cool if you have a different opinion. Not trying to say you'r wrong either. Just pointing out why some folks are really not liking this much more than as a 3D demo.

It's obvious, this movie will surely pale in comparison when put next to Piranhas 3D. That movie looks like a real winner.

Just saw it tonight...

We were supposed to be at a 3D showing, and my friend who pulled the times got the theater wrong and we ended up at one with 2D only. But it was late and we decided to watch anyway (he had to pay for taking us to the wrong theater).

I'd give it a C+/B-. It was better the first time when it was called "Ferngully."

btw, this wonder mineral, "unobtanium" isn't original. that name was used in the 2003 movie "The Core" to describe the material Delroy Lindo's character created.

It's been around way, way before that too. I didn't realize anyone claimed Avatar came up with the term.

I want to check in out in 2D and see how the movie stands up without all the 3D technology.

You really want to watch blue fairies jump around a forest and touch flowers for an hour without being able to see it in 3-D? Ouch. No way I could do that.

Lol I mean on a bootleg or when it's on DVD. If I see it again in theaters, it'll definitely be in 3D.

In IMAX 3D this is an epic film...in 2D you could wait for DVD. I have never had anything close to the wow factor I had in IMAX 3D with that film. Storyline is a C so in 2D I imagine it is not so much.

Interesting piece.....

'Avatar' arouses conservatives' ire - latimes.com

"Avatar" has, of course, far more on its mind than its politics. It's a triumph of visual imagination and the world's first great 3-D movie. But it is fascinating to see how today's ideology-obsessed conservatives have managed to walk away from such a crowd-pleasing triumph and see only the film's political subtext, not the groundbreaking artistry that's staring them right in the face.

The 3D was spectacular.

Heard that ESPN will be creating a 3D Network soon.
